Job Summary
The Power BI Design Specialist will transform data into impactful, visually compelling Power BI reports that support organizational decision-making. Working with predefined semantic models, you'll collaborate closely with our BI Developer to enhance report designs and incorporate additional data sources as needed. This role emphasizes strong design skills, documentation, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring our reports are visually optimized, well-documented, and aligned with evolving business needs. This position offers growth potential, with opportunities to expand into data modeling and configuration through team collaboration. Experience with ERP systems, accounting, or construction data is highly valued.
Primary Responsibilities
- Report Design & Customization
- Develop Power BI reports from existing semantic models, leveraging established relationships to produce engaging, user-focused reports.
- Integrate external data sources and collaborate with the BI Developer to make necessary adjustments to data models, such as adding new fields or modifying relationships.
- Suggest and implement design improvements to ensure reports are user-friendly, accessible, and optimized for various organizational audiences.
- Documentation & Communication
- Document Power BI workflows, dependencies, and data models to provide clear references for report designs and data configurations.
- Maintain and update Visio diagrams to visualize data flows and dependencies, supporting efficient change management and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with the BI Developer and Data Engineer to communicate design needs, model changes, and any data-related challenges effectively.
- Ongoing Maintenance & Support
- Manage post-deployment requests and modifications to maintain the accuracy and relevance of Power BI reports.
- Address audience-specific configuration adjustments and ensure accessibility and usability in all report designs.
Required Qualifications
- Technical Skills & Experience
- Proficiency in Power BI Desktop with a strong foundation in data visualization, report design, and familiarity with data source integration.
- Experience working with ERP systems, accounting, or construction-related data is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of documentation tools like Visio for mapping data flows and model relationships.
- Professional Attributes
- Excellent collaboration skills to work closely with the BI Developer and other team members, with a growth-oriented mindset for learning data modeling.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in enhancing report design quality and maintaining documentation.
- Creative design skills to transform complex data into intuitive, visually effective Power BI reports.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in information systems, Business Analytics, Graphic Design, or a related field preferred.
- 2-4 years of experience in Power BI reporting, report design, or a similar role.
Work Location & Requirements
This position is based out of our Buda office, with potential for flexibility depending on experience and fit within the role.
