Overview:
RES is accepting applications for an Ecologist I for our Gulf Coast region.
The Mission: The Ecologist position will work with the ecology and regulatory team to perform all aspects of fieldwork and assist with technical report writing and data entry. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that works on a collaborative basis.
What your day-to-day might look like?:
As a member of the team, you will be assisting our Field Ecology team, so expect to be in the field around 50-80% of your time! You will collect a variety of field data, including delineating streams and wetlands, monitoring vegetation, conducting biological and geomorphic stream surveys, and performing hydrologic monitoring!
Please be advised that we perform these tasks come rain or come shine and working outside in harsh and adverse weather conditions (including both cold and hot environments) is part of the routine. You will also be walking long distances, traversing difficult terrain through thick vegetation, bending, lifting heavy objects (up to 50lbs), and performing other physical activities. We have projects all over the state of Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, so travel with overnight stays is often required.
Around 20-50% of your time, you will be assisting in office work. You will be performing data entry, processing, analysis, and technical writing. Technical writing tasks include drafting reports based on your field efforts, developing restoration plans, and producing other regulatory deliverables. Superior writing, communication, computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and attention to detail are paramount! You will be responsible for preparing reports, figures, and other elements of regulatory documents for the establishment and maintenance of restoration/mitigation projects.

Qualifications:
We would love to talk to you if you have many of the following:
BA/BS in an environmental science field such as, but not limited to, ecology, wetland science, aquatic biology, botany, wildlife biology, fisheries, soils, hydrology, etc.
Experience performing wetland delineations/ stream assessments
Experience in operating and transporting off-road equipment
Strong working knowledge of plant identification and vegetation in the Gulf Coast and Great Plains
Ability to interpret environmental assessments and mapping
A love for the outdoors
What will make you stand out?
Experience writing environmental/regulatory documents
Field monitoring practices including stream geomorphic surveying, vegetation sampling, and/or identifying hydric soils
Experience working with federal and state resource and regulatory agency personnel and various permitting processes
Experience with ArcGIS Pro, and/or other ESRI data collection software
Certifications such as CERP, PWS, or permits for threatened/endangered species collection
Knowledge of TXRAM, HGM, OSMM, or other functional assessments
