• Only qualified Underwriting Consultant candidates located in the Austin, TX area will be considered due to the position requiring an onsite presence

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensing:

  • Bachelor's degree in insurance or finance from an accredited college or university preferred

  • Property Casualty License a plus

  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI), Certificate in Captive Insurance (CCI) and/or Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) courses and/or designations preferred

    Experience:

  • Six (6) years of commercial insurance experience in the underwriting areas with an emphasis on program underwriting or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Supervisory experience a plus

    Skills & Knowledge:

  • Ability to maintain positive underwriting results while improving the end product

  • Ability to solve problems

  • Solid math skills including the ability to calculate figures accurately and efficiently

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Understanding of Captive Pricing Models and Captive Program Structures including Excess of Aggregate and A Fund / B Fund Captive Structures

  • Ability to work independently, accurately without direct daily supervision

  • Strong understanding of premium pricing, developing loss picks and utilizing Risk/Loss Forecaster third party software

  • Captive management; Understanding the intricacies and structure of trust accounts, premium cessions, reinsurance agreements, program agreements, captive financials and LLC Operating Agreements and how they influence underwriting

  • Ability to create, maintain and follow formal captive processes and best practices

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills

  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent negotiating skills

  • Ability to create and complete comprehensive, accurate and constructive written reports

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies

    Our client is seeking an Underwriting Consultant that will evaluate the risks and exposures associated with underwriting a book of business including developing new and renewal business quote proposals, developing loss picks, maintaining logs, preparing premium finance agreements, reviewing audits, working with internal accounting and captive management teams for billing and collections of premiums, providing summaries and projections of payroll reports provided by clients, accurately performing exposure based analysis using carrier rating models, submitting documents, communicating and negotiating pricing and coverages with carrier underwriters and communicating and supporting those decisions to brokers, carrier underwriters and ARS Management.

    Underwriting Consultant Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains strong relationships with agents, brokers, carrier contacts and internal department personnel

  • Works with claims and risk control teams to assist in any program service issues

  • Assists in the development and administration of complex underwriting rules and guidelines

  • Analyzes quantitative and qualitative data to improve risk selection

  • Acts as a technical resource for property and casualty coverage lines of business

  • Develops and maintains strong external/internal customer relationships by identifying, anticipating business needs and by delivering timely responses to captive customers, brokers and ARS managers; assists business development with marketing information, presentations and related activities

  • Mentors underwriting staff

  • Participates in special projects as assigned

  • Meets underwriting department KPI's (key performance indicators) established by ARS Management

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Supports the organization's quality program(s)

  • Travels as required
