Overview:
The Respiratory Technician (RT) Lead position presents an exciting opportunity for the RT to advance their skills working independently in a supportive team-based environment within a Multi-Specialty ambulatory clinic. The Respiratory Therapist Lead is responsible for developing and overseeing the respiratory therapy program in collaboration with the Pulmonologists and Diagnostic Services Supervisor. The Respiratory Therapist Lead is responsible for providing guidance on best practices, best practices for an ambulatory practice setting, and developing policies and procedures. As a Respiratory Technician, you will provide physician-ordered respiratory care services on ambulatory patients for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols. Responsibilities:
Collaborates with the patient's care team including, primary care team, specialists, home care, hospital team, and any others involved with the patient's care to optimize clinical outcomes.
Coordinate, monitor, train, and serve as a technical resource. Provides expertise in decision making, problem solving, and development of respiratory treatments policies and procedures.
Responsible for the development of departmental protocols, policies, and procedures related to respiratory procedures. Serves on committees as assigned. Assists with the education and training of respiratory students and physician residents.
Performs respiratory therapy procedures per provider orders and according to protocol, in a timely manner. Instructs patients and caregivers on appropriate care and equipment protocols. Evaluates the effectiveness of the respiratory regimen.
Reviews the patient's medical history and supporting clinical information. Evaluates any contraindications, insufficient patient preparation, and the patient's inability or unwillingness to tolerate the examination and associated procedures.
Completes all direct and indirect care documentation in timely manner and ensure patient records are current and complete.
Recognizes symptoms of cardiac arrest, respiratory distress and/or other impending crisis and initiates the necessary emergency response.
Performs simple pulmonary exercise tests (six minute walk test), spirometry, lung volume measurements and diffusion capacity testing (PFT's).
Educates patients on BiPAP/CPAP and assist with machine set up and mask fittings.
Maintains and troubleshoots PFT equipment and other respiratory equipment.
Ensures all equipment utilized has had QC performed as required and is in safe working order prior to use.
Reports any malfunctions to management and regularly practices preventive maintenance procedures; calls for service if needed.
Cleans, maintains, and stores equipment (machine and accessories) and all required logs as per manufacturer's guidelines. Stocks supplies and prepares patient room and equipment.
May Perform electrocardiograms and assists with holter monitor hook ups.
Ensures all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards, and Central Health Standard Operating Procedures, Policies and Procedures.
Participates in continuous quality improvement projects in order to better serve the patient, family and healthcare system to improve the quality of service provided. Supports organizational initiatives to promote and maintain a strong positive workplace culture.
Attends daily patient care (unit) huddles, staff meetings and education offerings both in person and via teleconference/online as required.
