The Stable Isotope Enrichment Group is seeking a Staff Technician who will focus on operations and development associated with the enrichment of stable isotopes. This position is part of the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division and serves the nation by advancing enrichment technologies and providing enriched stable isotopes products. We lead the science and production process development for delivering stable isotopes for medical, industrial, and DOE mission critical applications. As part of our team, you will work closely with a focused group of scientists, engineers, and technicians on challenging, fast-paced technical projects and operations in support of the DOE Isotope Program, and specifically associated with the rapidly growing field of stable isotope enrichment. Major Duties/Responsibilities: Operation of complex systems used for the enrichment of stable isotopes
Participation in research and development activities associated with advanced technologies including electromagnetic isotope separation
Participate in research activities utilizing Operating Instructions, Experimental Plans, or other required documentation
Assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting of research equipment
Research equipment servicing/maintenance
Document research activities utilizing Task Forms, Change Requests, Operations Logs
Support management of spare parts inventories
Shift work will be required to support 24/7 operations
Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements
Demonstrate dedication to strong teaming and a positive culture within the organization Basic Qualifications: An AS degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering Technology or a related technical discipline with a minimum of five years of technical experience in a research environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Preferred Qualifications: Excellent written and oral communication skills
Mechanical and electrical aptitude and experience
Basic knowledge of working with chemicals
Experience with vacuum systems, ion sources, plasma system, and control systems a plus
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the Laboratory Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs Special Requirement: This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program. This position will remain open for a minimum of 5 days after which it will close when a qualified candidate is identified and/or hired.
