Requisition Id 14018 Overview: We are seeking a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems Engineer who will focus on leading design, development, implementation and maintenance of SCADA and ancillary systems. This position resides in the Measurement Services group within the Fabrication Instrumentation and Inspection Division, in the Facilities and Operations Directoriate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Measurement Services group is responsible for the Central Energy Data System (CEDS) at ORNL. CEDS is comprised of several modules including Powerlogic SCADA and StruxureWare Power Monitoring and is primarily utilized to manage and monitor the power distribution and demand side electrical systems throughout the ORNL campus. In order to support these systems, candidates must employ a combination of electrical system and software engineering skill. Major Duties/Responsibilities: Design, develop and maintain SCADA projects for electrical and mechanical utilities and facilities Act as lead SCADA expert in group to train and mentor on-site and contract support personnel Assist electricians, facility engineers, facility managers, researchers and utilities engineers in troubleshooting and maintaining power and energy management systems, from basic configuration and troubleshooting of meters to complex, mission-critical systems. Analyze and resolve broad ranging issues with non-functioning systems and help customers maintain the reliability and performance of their systems. Issues range from software, hardware, internet/intranet, networking and communications to product and electrical metering applications. Identify and qualify product failures. Develop and recommend corrective measures, including engineering workaround solutions to address technical issues identified. Develop and recommend solutions as well as product enhancements to SCADA projects to include both electrical and mechanical systems and components. Support and direct vendor application and support engineers to resolve site-specific difficulties during new site commissioning and system extensions/upgrades as well as issue resolution with existing systems.

Basic Qualifications: BS in computer engineering, electronics/electrical engineering or related field A minimum of five years of experience as a lead Systems Engineer in electronics/electrical engineering, power systems or computer engineering. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Preferred Qualifications: One plus years of experience in electrical facilities maintenance is desirable Possess a demonstrated knowledge of Schneider Electric Power SCADA coding and project development Possess an understanding of power systems and electric/electronic metering principles SQL Database querying and programming experience / SQL Stored procedures
Understanding of industry communication protocols such as MODBUS and OPC.
Familiarity and ability to program with C#, Python, WesDev, and/or Java . Understanding of basic networking architecture, hardware, security and operating system configurations Experience in software, hardware, networking, database and/or system troubleshooting, diagnosis and problem solving Understanding of electrical safety, power quality and knowledge of electrical power industry On-site power system experience or remote advanced technical support experience Knowledge of Schneider Electric Power Monitoring and Control products Understanding of electronic metering systems, Power Monitoring Expert (PME) preferred
Knowledge of setting up and troubleshooting field hardware such as protocol converters, meters, power distribution units, UPS, generators, etc.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs. Q or L clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
