Requisition Id 13716 Overview: The Nuclear and Radiological Protection Division (NRPD) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a Radioanalytical Services Manager within the Nuclear Measurements and Analytical Services Group. ORNL is a world leader in advanced science and technology research involving several nonreactor nuclear facilities, accelerators, and the High Flux Isotope Reactor which involve a complex range of internal and external radiological hazards that are managed to protect more than 3,000 researchers and operations staff involved in the Nuclear Research and Isotope Production Mission. The Radioanalytical Services Group is responsible for maintaining Department of Energy Laboratory Accreditation Program (DOELAP) accreditation for in vivo and in vitro analytical programs and providing specialty measurement capabilities as an essential part of the ORNL Radiological Protection Program under 10 CFR 835, Occupational Radiation Protection. As part of our team, you will Be responsible for the Radiobioassay Program to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and to serve as the line manager for the technical staff who are performing radio-analytical measurements that are part of the internal dose monitoring program for ORNL research and operations staff. A key performance objective for this position is to ensure timely and accurate radioanalytical results that are of the highest quality. The position is also responsible to oversee the management of allocated laboratory space, equipment and instrumentation, processes, procedures, and materials to ensure safe and efficient operations. This position serves as the NRPD point of contact with ORNL research and operations technical staff, Department of Energy Site Office, and senior management for consultation on radiobioassay techniques and results. Major Duties/Responsibilities: Maintain DOELAP accreditation for the in-vitro program.
Ensure efficient management of radiobioassay laboratories, count room, instrumentation, by tracking and trending performance metrics.
Provide technical direction to the NRPD analytical support laboratory staff concerning radiochemical processes, nuclear instrumentation counting techniques, procedures, and processes.
Participate in incident/accident investigations involving radiological material releases and/or potential intakes related to in-vitro monitoring.
Continue development of advanced radioanalytical methods (i.e., ICP-MS, etc.)
Develop strategic plan to upgrade and maintain facilities and equipment.
Develop and foster collaborative relationships with field deployed radiological protection operations staff, research and operations organizations, and other internal dosimetry programs.
Manage the development and/or revision of procedures and technical documents related to the in-vitro program.
Provide support to NRPD senior staff in developing bioassay methods for new radioisotopes as part of the expanding ORNL nuclear mission.
Interface with vendor support related to instrument troubleshooting and repair.
Provide technical support to the NRPD radiological safety training program for areas of responsibility. Serve on the ORNL Emergency Operations Center support team as assigned.
Demonstrate Safety Leadership by influencing a balanced perspective on risk tolerance through consistent communication and actions.
Participate in and/or perform audits, inspections, verifications, and surveillances.
Develop and manage metrics, goals, and outcomes for assigned areas and staff.

Basic Qualifications: BS degree in chemistry, physics, health physics, or a related technical field.
Eight or more years' relevant experience in radioanalytical operations or similar.
In-depth understanding of radiobioassay methods and radiation counting concepts. Preferred Qualifications: An advanced science or engineering degree in a directly related discipline (e.g., health physics, physics, radiochemistry, etc.) is a plus, and will be given appropriate consideration in lieu of experience.
Three or more years experience in managing staff performing radioanalytical measurements
Acquainted with DOELAP requirements for in-vitro programs.
Prior experience at a DOE National Laboratory
Knowledge of modern radioactivity measurement and reporting technology and methodology
Advanced computing skills, including data reduction, analysis, and presentation.
Excellent organization, communication, writing, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to interface with senior technical staff, auditors, regulators, and customers from varied disciplines and backgrounds.
