ASSA ABLOY, Pemko and Markar Products is a company leading the industry in gasketing, thresholds, continuous hinges, sliding and folding door hardware and other architectural accessories. ASSA ABLOY is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team, located at our Memphis, TN facility.

Job Tasks:

  • Work closely with Product Management to generate, initiate and complete new product, product improvement and cost reduction design ideas based on customer needs and company goals.
  • Design and optimize mechanical components for Opening Systems. Components include: thresholds, hinges, gasketing, automatic door bottoms, astragals, power transfers, sliding and folding hardware, peripheral products, etc.
  • Create and execute product test plans, to include alpha, beta, and compliance testing for durability and functionality.
  • Analysis of mechanical systems, including analysis for structural, fatigue, thermal, and acoustics.
  • Develop design drawings in accordance with applicable standards and tolerances.
  • Construct and oversee technicians in construction of developed systems.
  • Interface with outside vendors for component selection, manufacturing, and assembly.
  • Confer with other engineers, production staff, and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specification, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.

Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills
  • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge
  • Knowledge of GD&T and managing tolerance stack-up in component assemblies
  • Self-motivated and highly organized
  • Background in mechanical parts and systems design preferred
  • Aluminum extrusion, stainless steel, extruded resin parts design experience is a plus
  • Manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years' experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Project)
  • Proficient in SolidWorks 3D CAD modeling and AutoCad (preferred)
