Job description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the main point-of-contact for royalty or copyright related matters
- Coordinate the flow of metadata and revenue related to public performance and mechanical collection on behalf of owned and represented labels.
- Research & secure mechanical licenses either directly or through The Harry Fox Agency (HFA).
- Communicate with HFA regarding new uses in their eMechanical system and questions regarding licenses or royalty statements.
- Answer questions regarding language in direct licenses and payment documents for publishers and composers not affiliated with HFA.
- Work with activity reports from Naxos' distribution systems to compare release information with data from the reporting system to assess configuration information for accurate licensing.
- Enhance departmental functionality through procedural and technological advancements
- Answer questions regarding master recording claims and disputes in the SoundExchange system for claimed master's on project handled through Naxos to ensure full ownership and rights to public performance income.
- Answer questions regarding the use of Naxos' Royalty Reporting system for submitting new releases, adding mechanical license numbers, and adding new publisher information.
- Process and provide the accounting department with quarterly Journal Entries for mechanical royalties owed.
- Notify the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) of monthly activity and the creation of the yearly summary of the monthly activity.
- Manage communication with performing rights organizations (PROs) regarding performance licensing for compositions streamed via Naxos's owned platform, MusicBox
- Training and managing temporary employees or interns who may be brought on to assist the department, including obtaining mechanical licenses through HFA and directly.
- Answer questions and manage projects for temporary employees.
- Provide financial or copyright analysis required by the company or represented labels.
- Create artist royalty statements for certain Naxos owned labels.
- Process royalties for labels with unclassified contract and provide statements of activity.
- Provide monthly release information to SOPROQ.
- Maintain and implement compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external persons
- Ability to translate complicated business issue into action given set parameters
- Excellent computer proficiency, particularly with the MS Office Suite. Advanced Excel capabilities (e.g., pivot tables) are required.
- Leadership and ability to provide project outlines, deadlines, and guidance throughout a given project
Preferred:
- Ability to research topics related to pertinent departmental issues in this ever-changing landscape
- Experience with royalty management systems, specifically RoyaltyShare
- Understanding of basic accounting (account credits and debit)
- Knowledge of general audit structures
EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
- Bachelor's degree required (business, accounting, or music business focus preferred)
- 2-3+ year(s) working in a label-perspective mechanical royalty administration role with experience leading projects
- Practical understanding of copyright law, mechanical licensing, and how it pertains to classical music (public domain, public performance, etc.)
