_ Position Details: _
Full-time (36 hours)
Sunday - Saturday with rotating weekends
Day/Evening Shift

_ Education Required: _
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, medical technology or physical science, or possess a degree that meets coursework and laboratory requirements.

_ License, Certification and/or Registration: _
State of Tennessee license as a Medical Laboratory Technologist
National Certification (ASCP, AMT)

_ Experience: _
Four or more years' experience as a medical technologist in the lab section/shift strongly preferred.

_ Additional Skills/Abilities: _
Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.
Must be able to maintain absolute confidentiality in the handling of patient information.
Absolute integrity and accuracy in the identification and reporting of number and names.
Must have the ability to make decisions concerning resources, technical problems, or other needs of the department with minimal direction.

_ Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions: _
Performs patient and proficiency tests without errors by following SOP as identified in technical manuals.
Individual is authorized to perform specimen processing, test performance, and result reporting without supervision for all tests/areas designated by training checklists.
Recognizes abnormal results or results that deviate from those expected.
Reports and documents critical values according to established protocol.
Reports STAT results within established protocol with a 90 - 95% compliance rate.
Performs and documents routine quality control and preventative maintenance.
Insures that all parameters are within stated control limits or takes action as necessary.
Troubleshoots, corrects, and documents problems related to specimen testing.
Required action taken when necessary to troubleshoot and correct a problem.
Verifies the accurate identification and acceptability of specimens.
Establishes, implements and evaluates procedures, protocols and processes to improve overall cost effectiveness.
Participates in achieving budgetary goals of the laboratory by using supplies, instruments, etc., in a cost-effective manner.
Handles personnel issues when necessary
Performs phlebotomy as needed.
Assists in establishing and maintaining quality improvement programs.
Monitors compliance and initiates corrective actions.
