Job description

Purpose and Scope: Amentum is seeking an indidvidual to serve as Assistant Chief of Operations in charge of the management and control one of three alternating 24-hour shifts, supervising all firefighters in fire ground situations as well as the performance of care and maintenance of apparatus and equipment. Essential Responsibilities: Participates in the administration and planning of a comprehensive fire prevention and firefighting and rescue program in accordance with the Performance Work Statement. Receives new regulations or procedures from the Fire Chief, disseminates information to subordinates and assures that policies and procedures are effected. Properly creates, maintains, and submits on time, station logs and other records pertinent to reports, activities, drills, responses etc., utilizing Fire & Emergency Services Information Management System (FESIMS) and other automated systems when required. Prepares and executes assignments of personnel to specific duties and equipment. Achieves and maintains current knowledge of the base, its structures, test systems and principles, and fire protection systems. Ensures designated tasks and firefighting duties are accomplished and documented as outlined in department Management Plans, Standard Operating Procedures and Company Policy and Procedures. Serves as Incident Commander of all emergencies encountered unless relieved by a more senior fire officer. Determines best course of action to protect lives and minimize loss or damage. Supervises safe and proper rescue, firefighting, hazard mitigation and risk management efforts and determines adequacy of measures taken. Responsible for implementing internal controls, self-inspection, and audit compliance. Regularly practices and enforces a sound safety management program. Performs supervisory personnel management for assigned fire operations personnel. Performs other duties as directed. Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Employee must possess 10 years of progressive experience as a full-time firefighter with a regular professional paid firefighting force or equivalent experience and must have at least five years directly related experience as an Assistant Chief for Operations, to include experience as an airport firefighter. To qualify, selectee must: Possess all certifications which are required for an Assistant Chief for Operations in accordance with the DoD Manual 6055.06, DoD Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Certification Program. The applicant must be certified as Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, and Fire Inspector II, Airport Firefighter, and HazMat Incident Commander Be trained and qualified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Have no physical defects or grooming habits which would impede ability to wear protective clothing and equipment, and perform other strenuous tasks under adverse conditions Submit to and pass (prior to assignment of duty) an initial physical examination which conforms to NFPA 1582, Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments and pass the same physical examination annually thereafter Participate in mandatory physical fitness program Possess a valid state driver's license. Is preferably licensed on all assigned fire apparatus and support vehicles Possess capability to attend and successfully complete on- and off-site training courses and any certification required by the Air Force and company New hires must be able to obtain an Interim Security Clearance, be granted access to the AEDC local area computer network; and be able to obtain and always maintain, a SECRET security clearance Participate in recurring proficiency training as required Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands: Employees in this position may be exposed to out-of-control fires, HAZMAT spills, or possible explosions and may suffer from burns, dehydration, effects of heat, smoke inhalation, heavy protective clothing, or falling materials. Employees could be subject to physical injury and sensory damage from firefighting activities, exposure to HAZMAT and high noise levels. They must deal with victims in emergency situations who may be in varying stages of fright, panic, injury, or shock. There may be hazards while operating or riding fire trucks under adverse conditions and the employee works outside in all types of weather conditions. Employee may be required to move charged fire hoses, fire extinguishers and other equipment, must be able to wear encapsulating suits or protective clothing weighing 50 pounds or more, and climb ladders and work at various heights. Basic physical requirements include walking, bending, stooping, stretching, climbing, running, and lifting well over 100 pounds. At times, work will be done in an office environment.
