Job description

Position Summary: As part of the Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG) clinical leadership team, a CNM Director embraces the following focus on clinical operations: (1) Program Operations to ensure quality care is delivered, (2) Building and maintaining relationships with hospital medical staff, nursing staff and administrative leadership as a spirit of service to others, (3) Building and maintaining relationships with the CNM and physician Ob Hospitalist team, (4) Ensuring the assigned program is connected to the overall OBHG medical group network, and (5) Financial stewardship to ensure the longevity of the program. Under the supervision of a licensed physician (where required by hospital bylaws or state statutes), attends cases of normal childbirth and provides prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care, including family-planning care, for the mother, and immediate care for the newborn. This position reports to a Medical Director of Operations and will collaborate with the MDO to ensure the clinical team is delivering a quality program that achieves both OBHG's and the hospital's clinical and operational objectives. The CNM Director is expected to work at least five (5) OBHG 24-hour shifts (or equivalent) each 28-day period during their employment as CNM Director. The CNM Director is also expected to travel to the hospital as needed to address hospital and operational priorities. This travel will include dates when the CNM Director is not working a clinical shift. I. Program Operational Management Oversee the delivery of clinical services at the assigned hospital Ensure consistent performance of clinical services in accordance with program definition Supervise, mentor, advise, and support team members Ensure OBHG participation in clinical drills Ensure daily OBHG participation in Labor and Delivery board rounds Collaborate with medical staff to ensure safe transitions of patient care Communicate and enforce clinical policies, procedures, and expectations Manage minor provider issues and escalate to the MDO as appropriate Ensure 100% schedule coverage at the hospital Provide written and verbal status updates on the assigned hospital Participate in peer reviews or investigation of clinical incidents as requested by OBHG Encourage and ensure provider participation in overall quality initiatives Assist in the enforcement of provider training requirements Serve as a liaison between OBHG corporate support teams and our clinicians Relationship Management Collaborate on program management with the Site Director of Ob Hospitalists Communicate regularly (at least monthly) with key hospital program stakeholders (Manager of Labor and Delivery, Department Chairperson, Director of Women's and Children's Services) Communicate regularly with key hospital administration (Chief Medical Officer) Reinforce the clinical aspects of OBHG value proposition at the hospital Participate in hospital meetings including but not limited to Departmental meetings, a written summary of pertinent information from these meetings shall be distributed to all team members and the MDO Ensure clinical services are meeting hospital objectives and expectations by working closely with the Site Director of Ob Hospitalists, Chief Medical Officer of the hospital and Departmental leadership Participate in program performance reviews Participate, or ensure consistent OBHG representation, in other pertinent hospital committees (examples include peer review, quality improvement, ) Communicate regularly (at least monthly) with each team member to determine satisfaction with the program and inquire about any concerns or suggestions for improvement Communicate regularly (at least monthly) with the MDO and share program information learned during meetings with hospital and team members Hold regular (monthly) team meetings by phone, the CNM Director shall not be working a clinical shift during this meeting time Ensure the MDO, Director of Hospital Operations (DHO), and Clinical Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) are invited to the team meeting Summarize the monthly team meeting (meeting minutes) and share this document with all team members and the MDO, DHO, HRBP Responsible for attending and participating in interviews for new providers at assigned site Responsible for orientation and shadowing of new CNMs at assigned site Financial Stewardship Collaborate with hospital leadership, Site Director of Ob Hospitalists, MDO and DHO to identify ways to increase hospital Labor and Delivery utilization Collaborate with hospital leadership, Site Director of Ob Hospitalists, MDO and DHO to identify ways to increase hospitalist program utilization Collaborate with hospital leadership to ensure that the program is meeting the hospital's needs Collaborate with hospital leadership to ensure that clinical care is being delivered efficiently Collaborate with the medical staff to ensure efficient utilization of healthcare resources II. Essential Skills/Credentials/Experience/Education OBHG clinician presently working at least five (5) 24-hour shifts (or equivalent) each 28-day period Licensed as a Certified Nurse Midwife in the state of practice Highly relational, able to build strong rapport and positive working relationship with all stakeholders (Hospital leadership, hospitalist teams, nurses, staff physicians, and OBHG corporate staff) Team oriented, service minded, goal focused individual who believes in OBHG mission Excellent verbal and written communication skills Proven leadership skills Able to attend regular meetings at assigned hospital even when not working a clinical shift III. Preferred Skills/Credentials/Experience/Education Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook IV. Mental and Physical Demands (per ADA guidelines) Physical Demands: Sitting for long periods of time Position also requires walking, standing, stooping or kneeling Regularly required to use computer keyboard, mouse and telephone Lift and carry objects such as books and files weighing up to 15 pounds Close vision work and ability to adjust focus Able to travel
