TITLE: Modeling Engineer
TYPE: Contract
LOCATION: Plymouth Meeting, PA
ONSITE/REMOTE/HYBRID: Hybrid-2-3 days onsite
START DATE: August/September 2024
SHIFT: 1st Shift

We are looking for a Modeling Engineer
The role of a Modeling Engineer Contractor is instrumental in advancing the development and upkeep of the real-time EMS (Energy Management System) model through the use of the Siemens Information Model Management (IMM) tool
This position involves active participation in updating the EMS database and creating coherent single-line displays that accurately model the real-time conditions of the power system based on the Common Information Model (CIM).

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and sustain Major Power Transmission and Generator models within the EMS
  • Aid in the EMS system's specification, testing, and evolution to meet evolving functional demands
  • Facilitate model and parameter update transfers from IMM to TNA, addressing any arising issues
  • Handle EMS model modifications by Transmission Owners, including schematic evaluations and effective communication
  • Ensure EMS model data remains precise and up to date
  • Utilize Siemens Graphical Editor to produce and refine accurate single-line diagrams
  • Ensure all processes comply with Operating Agreements, manuals, and pertinent NERC and FERC standards
  • Execute script-based transmission model comparisons within TNA
  • Draft and maintain documentation for departmental procedures and the model-building initiative, aligned with IMM support
  • Undertake additional tasks as required

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or similar field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Proven expertise and hands-on experience with databases for real-time Energy Management Systems (EMS)
  • Prioritizes the needs and expectations of both internal and external customers, fostering strong relationships based on trust and respect.
  • Exhibits consistent top performance, meeting and surpassing set objectives through a result-oriented approach.
  • Practical experience in EMS and overall power system operations, particularly in roles focused on EMS network modeling and/or applications
  • Skilled in the specification, design, testing, deployment, alteration, and support of both modeling tools and network applications within EMS contexts
  • Demonstrated capability and experience in creating real-time EMS displays utilizing specific software and understanding electric power system display properties
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective customer engagement and support
  • Exceptionally builds and maintains rapport with diverse groups, leveraging diplomacy and tact to navigate complex situations smoothly.
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve problems efficiently
  • Experienced in real-time EMS transmission network analysis tasks, including but not limited to State Estimation, Security Analysis, and analysis of reactive power transfer limits through P-V curve assessment
  • Efficiently prioritizes tasks, making smart use of time and achieving more within shorter timelines.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) or comparable experience
    • Demonstrated proficiency in any of the following: SQL/ORACLE, UNIX, VBA, PYTHON
    • Understanding of power system components and how they are represented in databases
    • Experience working with Siemens Spectrum Energy Management Systems
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the Power System Common Information Model (CIM, IEC 61970-301 & 61968-11)
