Job description
Responsibilities Noblis MSD's mission is to support the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWCPD) and their missions to enable research, development, test and evaluation, acquisition, engineering, systems integration, in-service and fleet engineering with cybersecurity, comprehensive logistics, and life-cycle savings. Noblis MSD is looking to hire a Machinery Controls Systems Engineer. This position is for a Waterfront Machinery Controls System Engineer. The main function of this candidate will be to provide system design, installation and verification/validation support of the modernized Machinery Control Systems (MCS) on the USS ARLEIGH BURKE class of destroyer, as well provide support during testing activities on the land based engineering test site (LBES). The candidate will have electrical/systems engineering experience and the ability to troubleshoot control systems with the use of test tools, system documentation, and electrical schematics. The candidate will be expected to work on a flexible work schedule to ensure priority tasking can be completed in the allotted timeframe. Overtime will be compensated and is expected on a semi-regular basis while ships are in an active availability. The candidate will be tasked by and report to technical leads within Code 552. The candidate will be expected to provide documented status updates on a regular basis. Responsibilities will include: Troubleshoot control systems with the use of system documentation and electrical schematics Provide shipboard test support for all variants of fielded systems Provide shipboard software and hardware installation support of all variants of fielded systems shipboard Provide documented status updates on a regular basis Act as a liaison between shipboard test team and technical leads back in Philadelphia Maintain personal source of information between jobs and tasking Aid in test procedure development, edits, and implementation Review technical documentation related to all variants of fielded systems and future fielded systems Provide engineering input to the design of future MCS systems The work is typically performed at industrial test sites (80%) and aboard US Navy Ships (pier side and at sea - 20%), which requires proper safety precautions and appropriate physical protection equipment which will be provided by the employer. The remaining 10% of time will be in a typical office environment reviewing technical documentation. The role also requires travel to domestic and international client sites. Travel will be up to 20% of the role. Physical Requirements include the ability to: Lift and carry (with assistance) up to 50 pounds Access and maintain equipment located in confined spaces Ascend/descend ramps/ladders/stairs and work comfortably at varying heights Reach overhead to handle, install, position and move materials Perform routine maintenance tasks while crouching, stooping and kneeling Work in environments with temperature fluctuations, including both hot and cold conditions Sustain physical activity for extended periods, as well as maintaining balance See details at close range, at a distance and from side to side Detect alarms and respond to auditory signals effectively is requirement Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is highly desired with 3-5 years of experience as it pertains to control systems in an industrial or Naval environment. A candidate with a HS Degree and 9 years of Navy technical experience will be considered. Former Navy Gas Turbine System Technicians (GSE or GSM). SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive approval upon position acceptance. Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance. Desired Qualifications Knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures associated with industrial control systems. Experience with Versa Module Eurocard (VME) systems. Experience with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems. Advanced computer skills to include use of HyperTerminal, Putty, or an equivalent serial interface. Ability to use Wireshark for network data capture, analysis, and troubleshooting. US Navy shipboard experience in engineering department. Compensation at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is based on full time status. For part time or on-call staff, compensation is proportionately adjusted based on hours worked.
