GENERAL SUMMARY
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents patient care in accordance with the facility, departmental and professional nursing practice. The LPN utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills necessary to assess data, plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to patients. The ability to provide documentation in electronic format is required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assessment and Documentation of New and Established Patient/Consult: Review patient history, including prior medical/surgical and urological history. Requires thorough documentation and assessment in an appropriate time frame. Review available information obtained by other health care team members, internal and external.
Requires performance of nursing skills present in the urological clinic and knowledge of laboratory services and their requirements
Recognition of recent and prior diagnostic test results having relevance to patient current urological health history is needed.
Collaborates with surgical scheduling department regarding patient preparation, required clearances, review and reporting of abnormal pretesting results and complex questions issues relating to surgical procedure for office surgical procedures and hospital procedures.
Provides direct surgical assistance with urological office procedures.
Provides delegation and oversight to direct and indirect care delivery of physician team.
Provide urological educational requirements to the urological patient.
Assists physician with patient examination as needed.
Reviews physician's orders, lab requests, or follow-up needs with patient
Performs any treatments per physician orders, including, but not limited to, administration of medications, dressing changes and catheterizations.
Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
Performs blood draws.
Uses proper handling and disposal of all medications, chemical substances, needles, syringes, etc. used in the course of patient treatment. Sterilizes equipment and supplies as needed.
Responds to patient telephone inquiries by evaluating and responding to the patient's problems and questions; screens for same day add on to daily schedule as needed.
Follows up with patients on lab results, including the scheduling of any additional tests.
Attends and participates in monthly staff meeting
Maintains confidentiality of all patient information and disseminates to others on a need to know basis.
Performs other position related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
Current LPN license as required by state.
BLS certification required, ACLS preferred.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES
Knowledge of urological office procedures needed with direct assistance or delegation and oversight of assigned team members providing care. Includes: Uroflow Testing, Post Void Residual Testing, Intravesical Administration, Urinary Catheterization, Urodynamic Testing, Urinalysis and Venipuncture.
Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
Knowledge of database management.
Knowledge of medical terminology, healthcare coding systems, and clinics functions.
Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements.
Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and other third-party payer's guidelines.
Basic computer skills/knowledge and keyboarding skills.
Ability to calculate basic math.
Must be able to multi-task, use critical thinking and problem solving skills and analyze complex data.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Completion of LPN program required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and six months to one year related experience preferably in urology.
