SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The successful candidate will be responsible for direct patient care in the division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and compliance with guidelines as outlined in the supervising agreement. The Physician Assistant will work as part of the clinical team that includes 20 Advance Practice Clinicians, 6 Neonatal Fellows 13 Neonatal Attending's, rotating Pediatric Residents, Respiratory Therapists, Dieticians, Pharmacists, Care Coordinators, Social Workers, and other healthcare providers. The NICU at Penn State Health Children's Hospital is the only Level IV NICU in central Pennsylvania and serves a diverse population that includes extremely premature infants, as well as those with general and specialized surgical disorders, multiple anomalies including genetic disorders, complex congenital heart disease, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy requiring therapeutic hypothermia, and conditions requiring ECMO. The Physician Assistant relies on extensive experience, education, and clinical judgment to plan and accomplish treatment goals, shorten length of stay, and improve patient outcomes. A wide degree of patient care autonomy/latitude is expected. Following appropriate mentorship, the PA is credentialed and works in collaboration with the attending physicians, peers, and other members of the healthcare team to provide specialty care to critically ill patients. The PA provides education and instruction, both formal and informal, to residents, nurses, students, and other healthcare professionals. The PA participates in in-house, round-the-clock coverage, coordinating, providing, and managing the care of critically ill patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of Pennsylvania required.
National Certification in Pennsylvania or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in Pennsylvania required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

Experience in working in a Level III or Level IV NICU
