Hartzell Propeller is the global leader in advanced aircraft propeller design and manufacturing technology for general aviation applications both piston engine and turboprop as well as custom propulsion solutions for electric, hybrid-electric aircraft and advanced air mobility programs. In 2021, Hartzell Propeller acquired Tanis Aircraft Products to expand Hartzell's heating products and expanded its offerings in the experimental propeller market with the acquisition of Whirlwind Propeller in 2024. Hartzell expanded its offerings in the MRO market with 2024 acquisitions of American Propeller Service, Texas Aircraft Propeller and Tiffin Aire Inc.
Hartzell seeks a Staff Accountant to support its MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) division. This role encompasses accounts payable, payroll, financial and operational reporting for multiple locations across the United States. The ideal candidate will possess critical thinking skills, a strong willingness to learn, resilience in challenging situations, and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities. The Staff Accountant will collaborate closely with site personnel to ensure the timely, accurate and relevant financial analysis and reporting. Additionally, this individual will ensure compliance with internal policies and contribute to the overall financial health of the MRO sites through analysis and reporting.
Key Deliverables
1) Perform Financial Analysis and Reporting
a. Perform monthly fluctuation analyses on financial statements to identify potential accounting issues and investigate variances
b. Analyze trial balances and other financial data
2) Ensure transactions are recorded promptly and accurately in accordance with internal accounting policies.
a. Tie local ledger balances to central ERP ledger balances
3) Month End Closing
a. Assist MRO sites with the month-end closing process, including reporting, general ledger reconciliations, expense accruals, journal entries and account analyses.
b. Lead the monitoring of MRO sites' progress in the close process and follow up on delays.
4) Process Improvement
a. Develop and implement accounting procedures by assessing current procedures and recommending enhancements.
b. Drive initiatives for cost-cutting, continuous improvement and streamlining initiatives
5) Administrative Support
a. Serve as backup for payroll and other local accounting site functions
b. Support other administrative duties that are required by the business
Requirements:
Required Technical Competencies
1. Exposure and Strength in the following areas:
- Financial and Operations analysis skills & financial modeling ability to frame questions, gather and organize data, and challenge outputs to arrive at business intelligence (turn data into information) in a fast-paced environment
- Budgeting and Financial Management ability to compare actuals to a budget and both analyze the results and drive the appropriate action
- General Accounting skills and working knowledge of GAAP
2. Proficient Computer Skills MS Office
- Advanced Excel Function
- Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP's, etc.
- ERP or similar business systems exposure
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to synthesize financial issues for communication to a non-financial audience.
