Job description

The State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) provides essential care and support to residents in a healthcare, long-term care, or assisted living facility. Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, the STNA assists residents with daily living activities, such as personal hygiene, mobility, and feeding, while ensuring their comfort and well-being. This role is vital in promoting resident safety, dignity, and quality of life through compassionate and attentive care.

Key Responsibilities:

Resident Care:

Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and oral hygiene.
Help residents with mobility, including turning, positioning, transferring, and ambulating using assistive devices as needed.
Feed residents or assist with meals, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration, and monitor food and fluid intake.
Monitor and report changes in residents physical, emotional, or behavioral conditions to the nursing staff.

Vital Signs and Monitoring:

Measure and record residents' vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration, as directed by nursing staff.
Assist with monitoring residents skin conditions, reporting any signs of skin breakdown or pressure sores.
Assist with weight checks, intake and output monitoring, and other health-related measurements.

Documentation:

Accurately document care provided and residents' responses to care in the facilitys electronic health record (EHR) or paper charts.
Maintain records of residents' food and fluid intake, toileting habits, and other observations as required.
Report any concerns or incidents to the supervising nurse and complete required documentation.

Resident Safety and Comfort:

Ensure residents safety by adhering to facility protocols and infection control guidelines.
Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and comfortable living environment for residents.
Practice proper hand hygiene, use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, and follow all safety procedures.

Emotional Support and Resident Interaction:

Provide compassionate care and emotional support to residents, engaging in conversation and offering comfort as needed.
Respect residents' dignity, privacy, and personal preferences, and promote their independence wherever possible.
Assist residents with social and recreational activities, encouraging participation to enhance their quality of life.

Team Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with nursing staff, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for residents.
Participate in care plan meetings and contribute to the development of individualized care plans.
Assist with transportation of residents to appointments, therapy sessions, or activities within the facility as needed.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certification: Current and active State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification.
Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare, long-term care, or assisted living setting is preferred but not required. New graduates are welcome to apply.
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team.
Basic understanding of medical terminology and the ability to follow care instructions.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Proficiency in documenting care in electronic health records (EHR) systems is a plus.
