Are you an experienced Safety professional looking for a new challenge? Charter Steel is looking for a Safety Engineer to champion our safety culture across our two plants in Ohio (Cleveland, Fostoria).

What you'll do:

Promote a safe working environment for all employees at multiple business locations.

Identify, comply, and train applicable OSHA mandated programs.

Develop and execute plans to ensure proactive compliance to OSHA mandated programs and accident prevention.

Maintain safety documentation per OSHA regulations.

Review equipment design for ergonomic considerations and safety requirements.

Participate in safety process implementation for the planning and construction of facilities and equipment.

Manage accident investigation and corrective actions, housekeeping, and safety auditing processes.

Assist and serve as a resource for safety teams to utilize their knowledge of day-to-day operations regarding safety. Assist teams to arrive at the accident's root cause(s). Develop an action plan and follow up system that eliminates reoccurrence.

Coordinate the administration of Workers' Compensation claim handling.

Work closely with other safety engineers and staff at different businesses to ensure similarity in safety programs.

Manage environmental projects that either maintain compliance or improve the environmental process.

Administer regulatory compliance through permitting process, report preparation, and management of waste disposal system.

Responsible for on-site personal and property security.

Coordinate and maintain radiation safety programs in cooperation with the environmental department.

Coordinate the response to property insurance recommendations

What you'll need to have:

Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related degree.

Five plus years' successful safety experience.

Two plus years' demonstrated leadership skills in leading cross functional teams or resources with or without direct authority; including the ability to collaborate and influence others to find the optimal solution.

Experience in Workers' Compensation Insurance.

Working background in team environments (SDWT, problem solving teams or work cells) or equivalent team training.

Demonstrated practical experience in safety process improvement and statutory requirements or equivalent course work, degree, or certification.

Experience interacting with local, state and federal regulatory agencies.

Ability to interpret and apply OSHA regulations on a practical basis.

Familiarity with basic medical terminology.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational skills.

Proficient in the basic features of Microsoft Office products.

What we'd like to see:

Master's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related advanced degree.

One or more of the following certifications: PE, CSP, ASP, CIH.

Training in Total Quality Management, Continuous Improvement, and customer service systems or experience with similar processes.

EMT/ First Responder Certification.
