Job description

Duties As a EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (TITLE 32), GS-1670-9, you will serve as a recognized authority on the repair and operation of various types of ARNG equipment; provide instruction and assistance regarding equipment maintenance procedures, techniques, and methods as a part of the Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Team (MAIT); provide advice, assistance, and guidance regarding maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reduction programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities; receive reviews, and processes unit Army Material Status System (AMSS) reports and Missile Material Readiness reports and submits a consolidated report to the Logistics Support Activity (LOGSA); prepare and conduct both classroom and on-the-job training designed to upgrade, improve, and/or update the knowledge and working skills of unit maintenance personnel; develop, write, update, and teach units of instruction for new equipment training; evaluate training progress in areas such as basic mechanic principles; theories of equipment repair and modification; compliance with established procedures and directives; requirements for equipment maintenance records and reports; and proper utilization of equipment, personnel, funds, and facilities; evaluate directives to ensure adherence to standard methods, conformity in maintenance procedures, and the proper use of maintenance equipment, facilities, and personnel; recommend policy, procedure, or operation changes, as required, to facilitate and ensure efficiency in maintenance operations and manpower utilization; review the effectiveness and efficiency of equipment and maintenance management and needs for improvement of existing practices and the impact on the overall maintenance program; review and evaluates information in technical reports, logistical studies, supply data systems, and observations/inspections of maintenance organizations; research material pertaining to maintenance and maintenance management; utilize computer software programs to identify errors, equipment, non-mission capable time, and to determine a course of action to improve readiness; recommend revisions of higher headquarters' policies, procedures, practices, and regulations; provide methods for improving, consolidating, simplifying, and standardizing operations and management of maintenance activities; perform assistance visits to logistic and maintenance functional areas to provide guidance and assistance to ensure effective and smooth maintenance operations; perform hands on maintenance procedures to personnel on proper trade techniques, practices, and explains safety precautions involved in maintenance; perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Qualifications MILITARY GRADES : Enlisted (E4 to E9) or Warrant Officer (WO1 to CW2) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS : Experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more classes of equipment. The experience must include knowledge of standard shop terminology. A basic knowledge of mechanical principles relating to equipment. Experience must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blue prints and technical publications. Knowledge is of the type gained from technical training, education, and experience in functions such as repairing, overhauling, maintaining, constructing, or inspecting equipment. Experience using computer and automation systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : (Must have at least 24 months) experience, education or training which provided knowledge and skill in applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment design. Experience in the use of tools and test equipment. Experience developing, installing, inspecting or revising equipment maintenance programs and techniques. Education You must provide transcripts to support your educational claims. To receive credit for education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the education requirements for this position. Knowledge of the full range of ARNG equipment standards, policies, regulations, and methods sufficient to review the effectiveness and efficiency of equipment maintenance and training; and the need for improving existing practices that impact the overall equipment and maintenance program. Ability to instruct and provide classroom training involving equipment repair and modification; requirements for equipment maintenance records and reports; proper utilization and maintenance of equipment and facilities, etc. Knowledge of and ability to oversee equipment programs, maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reductions programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities.
