POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides direct instructional services to preschool children according to Individual Education Plans (IEP) in the in the least restrictive environment typically the home, childcare setting, or community preschool. Manages a caseload of preschool aged children based on locations of children, frequency of services, and duration of sessions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local compliance regulations;
Extensive knowledge of best practices in special education and the development of young children;
Extensive knowledge of young children with disabilities;
Extensive knowledge of the Electronic Access to Student Information (EASI) system;
Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point; Google Apps;
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
Ability to work independently and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
Ability to organize information pulled from multiple sources;
Ability to perform data collection and analyze student data;
Ability to organize information pulled from multiple sources;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with system staff, staff of childcare centers, students, parents, external agencies, and the community.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's in early childhood education, special education, or related field.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in Birth to Kindergarten;
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in Special Education from a regionally accredited college or university;
Preferred experience teaching preschool aged students with disabilities;
Experience with varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides direct instructional services to preschool children according to Individual Education Plans (IEP) in the in the least restrictive environment typically the home, childcare setting, or community preschool.
Manages a caseload of preschool aged children based on locations of children, frequency of services, and duration of sessions.
Collects ongoing student data to inform intervention support, program design, and IEP development, as a part of the teaching cycle.
Designs and delivers high quality specialized instruction to young children with disabilities in the community using the North Carolina Foundations for Early Learning.
Coordinates and develops individualized supports for families to empower them to best support their child; connects families with local and state-based community resources.
Stays abreast of current practices related to preschool education and participates in state and local professional development to improve own knowledge.
Perform other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position operates in an office and childcare setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, projectors, and laminating machines. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff of childcare centers, students, parents, external agencies, and the community. Work is considered medium physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 25 pounds of force. Ability to get on the floor and move in a variety of ways when working with young children. The work requires driving automotive equipment.
