Job description

The Transylvania County Campus Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, orderly and safe environment in and around the facilities and performs related work as required. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Maintains appearances of building interior by daily cleaning e.g. cleaning bathrooms, cleaning windows, dusting, washing white boards, emptying trash containers, vacuuming, mopping. Shampoos carpet and waxes floors as needed. Recycles cardboard, paper, and plastic. Assists faculty and staff in setting up classrooms and equipment for various functions. Maintains walkways and parking lot by picking up litter and removing snow and ice as needed. Removes and replaces light bulbs, ceiling tiles, white boards as needed. Performs regular maintenance of custodial equipment as needed. Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Is available for occasional weekend work. Performs all services with attention to the safety and security of the college. Maintains the technical competencies necessary to the job function. Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies. Performs other duties as assigned. Education Must have high school diploma or equivalent and a valid NC driver's license. Skills and the Know How A strong commitment to safety. Methods of maintaining, cleaning and preserving a variety of surfaces, proper use of a wide range of chemicals according to State and Federal regulations; handling and disposal of hazardous materials and blood borne pathogens. Work effectively in and around the public, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain cooperative working relationships while at the same time demonstrating sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population. Education: Must have high school diploma or equivalent and a valid NC driver's license. Physical Demands: The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
