Respiratory Therapist

Position Description:
The Respiratory Therapist in the Enhanced Staffing Solutions Local Flex Team is responsible for providing quality patient care in a manner that reflects a commitment to the core values of Rochester Regional Health System. In any patient care setting, the Respiratory Therapist will implement and update care plans, perform cardiopulmonary evaluation, administer respiratory therapy treatment techniques, and provide education to the patient, family, other team members, students, and the public. By working on assignments and/or floating to RRH facilities, you provide care where it's needed most.

Required Credentials:
NYS Respiratory Therapist (RT) license with current registration OR NYS Respiratory Therapy Technician (RTT) license AND National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) active credentials as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
AHA BLS Certification
AHA ACLS Certification

Required Experience:
Associate degree in respiratory care or equivalent certificate.
2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist in an acute care setting.
Must be familiar with all standard RT procedures such as neb therapy, airway management (ETT and trach care), arterial blood gas sampling, suctioning, and vent management.
Excellent computer skills required.
Exceptional customer service and communication skills.

Skills and Abilities
Trained to use specialty equipment including Maquet Servo-I and Servo-U ventilators, Philips V60 non-invasive ventilators, Philips home CPAP/BiPAP, and Airvo humidification system.
Review and evaluate existing data in the patient record including patient history, physical exam, current vital signs, admission, and current respiratory care orders for each patient assigned.
Review and evaluate data such as blood gas and other lab results, hemodynamic monitoring, electrocardiogram, and radiology study reports.
Advise providers on appropriate respiratory care procedure and techniques.
Select, assemble, and check respiratory care equipment for proper function, operation, and cleanliness.
Recommend, conduct, and document prescribed therapeutic procedures including medication administration, airway care, bronchial hygiene, oxygen and aerosol therapy, ventilator support, and monitoring and diagnostic procedures.
Monitor and document all pertinent clinical parameters and assessments on all assigned patients according to departmental policies and procedures.
Modify treatment techniques based on patient response.
Provide and document patient education for therapeutic procedures performed.
Initiate and update respiratory care plan for all patients per department policy and procedure as applicable.
Collaborate with other members of the health care team to implement the plan of care.
Communicate information regarding patient's clinical status to appropriate members of the health care team according to departmental policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
