Summary You will serve as a MACHINIST SUPVERVISOR I in the Mechanical Shop (Code 930), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Duties You will be technically accountable for the quality and quantity of the work performed by subordinates. You will provide performance evaluation and feedback to work leaders and journeymen. You will assure equality in determining qualifications, selections, assignments, training, promotions, details, discipline and awards to employees. You will coordinate efforts with EEO official during the development and execution of policies for civilian personnel. You will control the work and maintain the respect of subordinates. You will set the example of professional performance. You will utilizes Component Unit Phase level schedules, shipyard instructions and shop processes to establish goal oriented work assignments. You will conduct planning reviews with assigned personnel, engineers and technicians of support codes where needed. You will provide help to mechanics or work leaders in accomplishing difficult tasks and processes. You will lead conferences and job site consultation with foreman/work leaders to resolve work problems and provide help and guidance to achieve maximum team effectiveness. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101. You will be required to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight. You will be required to climb ladders and scaffolding. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Experience applying procedures, directives, and shipyard instructions in order to properly supervise work of a specialized nature such as Level I and SubSafe. Experience interpreting Advanced Industrial Management (AIM) processes and providing a high level of productivity while maintaining technical and quality control.
Experience planning the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials and tools through knowledge and practices of the machinist trade. Experience providing technical directions to workers in the machinist trade and general knowledge of work techniques, methods and equipment used by journeymen in any other shipyard trade.
Experience communicating work assignments to subordinate work leaders and journeymen through interpretation of procedures, blueprints, job orders.
