Adaptive Physical Education Teacher Needed
SUMMARY:
The Adaptive Physical Education Teacher is responsible for creating and conducting
developmentally appropriate adaptive physical education activities for preschool students with
developmental disabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties and responsibilities of the Adaptive Physical Education Teacher include, but are not
limited to the following:
• Creates and conducts developmentally appropriate adaptive physical education activities for
preschool students with developmental disabilities.
• Collaborates with classroom and therapy staff to provide goal-directed instruction in the
context of a group gross motor activity.
• Ensures that services are provided to students with the utmost regard for their personal
dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
• Follows established gym activity schedule.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and organized gym.
• Practices Universal Precautions at all times.
• Attends required staff meetings.
• Participates in activities of professional development with school staff.
• Performs other related duties as requested by the program director.
QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, employees,
children and their parents.
• Maintain confidentiality of children's records.
• Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective measures.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
• Master's degree in education, Special Education, or Early Childhood Special Education.
• At least 2 years of experience working with students with disabilities as an Adaptive
Physical Education Teacher.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret
reports and documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries, concerns or complaints from
employees and customers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical
situations. Basic understanding of statistics.

• Ability to lift and position children safely.
• Ability to stoop, bend, squat, and kneel
• Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy objects such as gross motor equipment, furniture, and
students' individual adaptive equipment such as a prone stander and/or wheelchair.
