Overview:
The Overnight Residential Life Supervisor is directly responsible for the creation and maintenance of a therapeutic living environment for participants and for leading a team of Youth Development Counselors in the non-secure detention program.

Reports to: Program Director

Location: 2207 University Avenue, Bronx, New York 10453

Hours: 40 Hours/Week; Non - Exempt

Salary Range:

Residential Life Supervisor (BA +3 years exp)$(phone number removed)

Major Duties:

Responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the program, including oversight of daily schedules, staffing coverage, and activities to foster a safe, secure, therapeutic environment.

Responsible for day-to-day communication, movement, admissions, transfers and coordination with DYFJ personnel, and other provider agency personnel.

With Director, recruit, interview and hire Youth Development Counselors, completing and submitting all documentation that is required.

Train and on-board new YDC staff to ensure proper orientation to the program.

Supervise youth development staff through shift meetings, 1:1 supervision and in vivo observation and feedback.

Participate in the performance evaluation process, and as needed in progressive discipline up to and including termination, of staff.

Work closely with Director regarding scheduling and oversight of the program.

Coordinate the documentation and timely submission of all needed reports and logs, including at minimum communications log, incident reports including follow up, youth observation reports, MAR sheets and search/contraband logs. Participate in the daily review of all medication-related documentation for legibility, completeness and accuracy.

With Director, oversee and respond to all youth needs, including sick calls, phone calls and visits, and ensure the Sanctuary level system is properly managed.

Communicate significant occurrences promptly to supervisor and external stakeholders as indicated.

Provide on-the-job training for youth development staff. Ensure staff are, and remain, in compliance with all trainings mandated by DYFJ, OCFS and GSS.

With the Director, participate in and co-lead any needed investigations whether of youth or staff matters.

With the Director, develop in-service professional development trainings and deliver through team and other meetings.

Serve as on call administrator according to roster agreed with Director and be on call 24/7 in case of crisis.

On call/triage in response to crisis and scheduling needs.

Conduct mediation between staff member when issues arise that impact team functioning. Conduct mediation between youth when needed.

Attend all mandatory program and agency meetings.

Monitor staff performance and communicate training needs to Director and the Training Department.

Ensure all applicable policies, procedures and directives are understood by staff and are implemented.

Perform direct line Youth Development Counselor work as needed.

Lead the implementation of the Sanctuary Model of trauma-informed practice within the department/program.

Encourage and advance the use of the Sanctuary Model tools: safety plans, community meetings, psycho-educational groups, team meetings, red flag reviews, treatment planning conferences (or similar), and self-care in the department/program to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.

Promote and model the seven Sanctuary Model commitments to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.

Integrate the Sanctuary Model SELF (Safety, Emotional Management, Loss and Future) framework into daily practice to ensure quality care and an effective work environment.

Utilize Sanctuary Model principles in the supervisory practice.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma with 5 years working with adolescent youth.

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred with 3 years working with adolescent youth.

Supervisory experience preferred.

Valid New York State Driver's License.

Proven client sensibility and ability to communicate with staff on all levels.

Demonstrated competence in verbal, written, organizational, and prioritization skills.

Capability to transition easily between working independently with a high degree of self-initiative and contributing as part of a team.

Participate in creating a safe and therapeutic milieu.

Effective in conflict resolution and crisis intervention techniques and practices.

Must be physically capable of escorting residents to appointments, and physically able to be involved in an active recreational program including contact sports.

Must be able to successfully complete state mandated crisis intervention training, and perform physical restraint of a resident.

Must be able to successfully complete state mandated medication administration training.

Must be flexible to work during hours supervisees work (some evening, overnight and weekend and vacation hours).

Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective.
