Position Description:
The Superintendent's primary role is to provide overall field management and administration to field employees, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers. The Superintendent may manage a major project or many projects simultaneously.
Core Responsibilities:
Deliver a quality project safely, on time, within budget and with focus on establishing positive relationships.
Manage subcontractors and vendors in a coordinated manner while developing long-lasting relationships for the Company.
Provide input and valuable review of subcontractor scope to assist the PM.
Create and maintain relationships with unions to foster harmony on the project site.
Maintain care and custody of the project site to assure safety is of the utmost priority.
Ensure that Quality Control requirements are met and followed in accordance with the Contract Documents
Provide assistance with pre-job planning, strategizing and conceptual scheduling.
Provide training and mentorship to field personnel.
Focus on creating and maintaining respect from Subcontractors, Owners, Design team and subordinates.
Ensure timely submission of Incident and Accident Reports.
Produce tight, realistic construction schedules.
Institute a "zero punch list" philosophy, to minimize punch list and call backs on projects.
Ability to finish projects ahead of schedule.
Ensure that no subcontractor is allowed to work on-site without an approved Insurance certificate, signed Subcontract or a Letter of Intent.
Provide constructive input into policy making relating to field employees.
Perform professional and thorough annual evaluations and focus on following up on training objectives for field employees reporting to this position.
Organize, manage, and record meetings.
Produce daily reports and Weekly Status Reports
Take digital progress photographs.
Assist the project team in developing monthly cost reports.
Execute the Company Safety Program.
Establish good working relationships with government agencies.
Mentor subordinates.
Promote a team atmosphere.
Qualifications:
BS or BA in engineering or related discipline. (A proven track record of Construction and/or Management experience in the field may be substituted for degree).
Extensive knowledge of the Owner contracts, drawings and specifications, subcontract agreements, insurance risks. Focuses on mitigating risk for the Company.
Extensive knowledge of the Scheduling process
Able to provide a project plan for use in the development of the overall project schedule.
Thorough knowledge of self-performance activities including site work, concrete, underground utilities particular to gas and electric transmission, substations, and campus infrastructure
Understanding of the Client requirements related to these activities.
Ability to provide professional representation at a project interview.
Proficient at public speaking.
Thorough knowledge of OSHA 1926 and related Corporate Safety Program.
Thorough knowledge of Safety Risk Management process, including understanding of EMR, IR, SR, FR and how to effectively improve Safety performance ratings in each of these areas.
Thorough knowledge of confined space, hazmat, asbestos, lead paint and other hazard policies and procedures.
Thorough knowledge of equipment safety
Assures that all required inspections of equipment onsite are completed.
Ability to manage an entire Project field force commensurate with high-risk large projects.
Ability to provide coaching/mentoring/leadership to field supervisory staff.
Successfully completed OSHA 30-hour safety training.
Successfully completed First Aid and annual CPR training.
Proficiency with computer programs necessary.
