In this exciting position, you will use your unique talents and make an immediate impact as a Paramedic/Firefighter at Melrose Air Force Range in Clovis, NM. The Paramedic/Firefighter will respond to all Melrose Air Force Range medical emergencies including response to in-flight emergencies (IFE), structural emergencies and ground emergencies and/or inter-facility requests. Primary Responsibilities: Paramedic Drives mobile intensive care unit to specified locations following instructions from the emergency medical dispatcher. Observes, records, and reports to the physician the patient's condition or injury, the treatment provided, and reactions to drugs or treatment. Performs first-aid and emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures such as stomach suction, airway management, and heart monitoring during ambulance ride. Immobilizes patient for placement on stretcher and ambulance transport using a backboard or other spinal immobilization device. Operates equipment such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), external defibrillators, or bag valve mask resuscitators in advanced life support environments. Administers drugs either orally or by injection or performs intravenous procedures under a physician's direction. Decontaminates ambulance interior after treatment of a patient with an infectious disease and reports case to proper authorities. Coordinates work with other emergency medical team members or police or fire department staff. Performs and/or assists with the medical supply/equipment inventory and daily appearance maintenance (to include but not limited to vehicle care, restocking supplies, and records management) for the assigned ambulance(s) and other assigned vehicles at the beginning of each shift. Completes patient encounter documentation within 24 hours of occurrence. Firefighter Extinguishes fires within and around the Melrose Gunnery Range in NM in collaboration with crew members Controls and contains wildfires using various strategies, such as digging ditches and coordinating aerial drops of fire suppressors. Creates a fire line by cutting down trees and clearing brush that could catch or spread fire. Collaborates with a team of firefighters to implement backfire or burnout operations. Creates landing spots for fire suppression helicopters. Establishes water supplies, connects hoses, and directs water toward and onto fires. Activates and controls water and chemical hoses and/or pumps. Uses tools such as shovels or engine or hand-driven pumps to extinguish flames and embers as needed to suppress fires. Through constant contact with fire dispatchers, advises when additional firefighters or supplies are needed and provides detailed information on status of operation. Searches for, rescues, and administers emergency first aid to victims of fire or other catastrophic events. Patrols and oversees burned areas after a fire to identify and extinguish hotspots that could reignite. Reviews and carefully analyzes weather and topographical data to predict fire behavior or risk areas. Drives and operates vehicles and equipment used in fighting fires. Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Actively participates in ongoing training, seminars, conventions, and conferences to maintain knowledge of current firefighting practices. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED (Associates Degree Preferred) National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification as a paramedic at the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) level Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at times with or without assistance. Must maintain qualifications to the Army Air Force Joint Prehospital Emergency Care Protocols. Successful passage of physical exam and fitness test. Complete a Work Capacity Test (Arduous Pack Test) upon hire and annually. Qualification as National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) Thorough understanding of relevant equipment, tools, policies, procedures, and strategies used in firefighting. Ability to work in Highly dangerous environments with the possibility of extremely prolonged periods working in high heat, high-stress situations. Must possess the ability to perform high-intensity physical labor including the ability to carry, drag, climb, and crawl, often across uneven terrain. Must be able to lift at least 150 pounds at a time. May need to be on shift for days at a time with very little rest. Ability to work in environments where there may be exposure to fire and smoke, and dangerous chemicals and poisonous gases.
