Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Rapid Response Team and PALS/Transfer Center, supervise the daily operations of the Rapid Response Team. Serve as the clinical resource and leader for department staff. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include; Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
LEAD - Provide educational leadership to enhance specialized patient care within clinical protocols
INITIATE - Initiate unit-based strategies for developing clinical skills through the master clinician, master preceptor model
PLAN - Develop operational strategies of care incorporating evidenced-based research and national standards
CONSULTS - Consult with and serve as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care
EDUCATE - Assist in the education of staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments for their service; coordinates in-service training/workshops for appropriate staff
ASSIST - Assist patient and caregivers with educational needs, problem solving, and health management aspects across the continuum of care
COLLABORATE - Collaborate with various Hospital wide committees to plan and implement patient care strategies
EXERCISES - Plan, conduct, and evaluate emergency responses to patient and visitor emergencies by utilizing scenario-based exercises
QUALITY - Regularly audits patient records and charts to evaluate the level and quality of patient care provided
COMPLIANCE - Maintain compliance and licensure with different governing bodies and agencies to ensure that RRT can utilize resources (protocols, medications, vehicles) to provide patient care
LICENSURE - Assist with the maintenance records of licensure on assigned staff
DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
COMPLIANCE - Ensure staff compliance with established policies and procedures, professional standards and practice, and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies
ASSIGNMENT - Designate shift and schedule assignments; assign duties in accordance with the plan of care, patient needs, and within the scope of staff qualifications and licensure/certification/registry
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT - Using independent judgment assign RRT personnel specific assignments within the organization
SHARED GOVERNANCE - Support and implement the UNMH shared governance model
SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
SUPERVISION - Supervise and coordinate the activities of Paramedics on Rapid Response to the following teams across the hospital complex: DR. HEART, Stroke alert, DART, Rapid Response Consult, and any other teams deemed fit for Rapid Response involvement
ROLE MODEL - Act as a clinical resource and role model for department personnel
EVALUATION - Prepare written staff performance evaluation of clinical procedures and other job elements as appropriate
COMMUNICATION - Develop and maintain community relationships; Develop and maintain good communications and relationships with staff and departments
DELEGATION - Delegate and monitor completion of duties according to departmental and Hospitals policies
PATIENT CARE - Perform Rapid Response Paramedic duties in accordance with professional preparation and licensure within organization parameters
POLICIES - Work within Hospital's Paramedic Scope and departmental policies. Establish and maintain policies for safety and ensure adherence to safety procedures in the use of therapy equipment and the handling of patients
TESTS AND PROCEDURES - Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained
PARTICIPATION - Participate in orientation; upon successful completion of preceptor training assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel
GOALS - Support, promote and participate as appropriate in the development and revision of departmental and hospital goals, objectives, policies, procedures, projects and programs as assigned
EMERGENCY MEASURES - Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients
MEDICAL RECORDS - Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information
INQUIRIES - Answer telephones and triage calls as per departmental policy
MEDICATION - Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings
ENVIRONMENT - Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards
WORK FLEXIBILITY - Demonstrate flexibility in working in a variety of settings
ASSET MANAGEMENT - Monitor large value inventory/supplies; track usage, disposal and replacement of expired items
BUDGET - Assist in developing departmental budget, monitor and approve expenditures, ensure fiscal responsibility
PAYROLL - Prepare and submit time to payroll system biweekly
PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
STRATEGIC INITIATIVES - Active participation in organizational strategic initiatives such as quality improvement and monitoring, TJC compliance, recruitment and retention of staff and patient and employee satisfaction.
STAFF MEETINGS - Conduct regular staff meetings in collaboration with Program Director to review changes in practices and provide an opportunity for problem solving
COMMUNICATION - Develops and maintains good communications and relationships within rehabilitation services departments and other hospital departments

Qualifications Related Education and Experience may be substituted for one another on a year for year basis.

PALS
ACLS & PALS INSTRUCTOR W/IN 6 MOS OF POSITION
Valid New Mexico Driver's License
UNM Vehicle Operator's Permit w/in 60 days
CEVO Course within 3 months of position
Arterial Blood Gas course w/in 3 mos of position
UNMH basic arrhythmia course w/in 3 mos of position
DOT Medical Certification within 60 days of position

Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
