Job Overview: RWJBarnabas Health is looking to hire a full-time Diabetes Educator RN in West Orange, NJ to assume clinical responsibility for a specific aspect of diabetic patients. This role is based at the Cooperman Barnabas Pediatric Specialty Center in West Orange, NJ. Qualifications: Required: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing Current New Jersey Professional Registered Nurse s License Preferred: Experience as a pediatric diabetes educator, highly preferred Current CDE certification Certifications and Licenses Required: New Jersey RN License BLS Certification approved by AHA Scheduling Requirements: Day Shift, 40 hours/week (M, W, TH 9 AM-530 PM, Tu 9:30 AM-8 PM, Fr 8 AM-2:30 PM) Full-time Schedule (travel between West Orange and Newark) Essential Functions: Assess the patient s past history and current condition, establish and monitor the patient/family goals and outcomes Coordinate, monitor and evaluate patient care in the outpatient setting Assess and implement patient/family education and home care needs Use an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess patients age specific needs and age specific treatment. Specifically responsible for review and management of patient blood sugar levels, including application of the Continuous Glucose Monitoring System and insulin pumps. Plan and conduct patient education classes as necessary. Informing patients of lab results, patient education tests such as training patients to administer medications at home, and administration of injectable medications in office as required.
