Job description
Independently perform preventative maintenance removal, fabrication and installation of insulating asbestos/non-asbestos material on plant system and equipment including boilers, chillers, tanks, hot or cold air ducts or pipes and steam generators. Work from written or verbal instructions, drawings, sketches, blueprints and applicable national, state and municipal specifications, codes and ordinances. Performs duties in compliance with contract, State, local and Federal laws and regulations and requirements. Essential Responsibilities: Possess Journeyman level skills in the abatement and repair of asbestos containing building materials, thermal insulation, and fireproofing. Install a variety of insulation products and encapsulant materials. Perform asbestos abatement; erect containment structures for abatement projects, repair asbestos containing materials such as ceiling tile, fireproofing, or spray applied finish surfaces. Perform clean-up operations at completion of asbestos abatement projects. Handle and properly dispose of asbestos materials. Install all types of insulation products; from insulation to jacketing, for a variety of applications including, but not limited to: piping, duct work, breechings, tanks and vessels, boilers, baghouses, heat exchangers, removable pump/valve covers, pvc and metal jacketing, firestop, and related items. Select type of insulating material on basis of heat-retaining or heat-excluding characteristics. Apply insulating material to exposed surfaces of equipment with retainers, bands, or clips to secure or hold insulation in place. When covering exposed surfaces, preform insulation to required size and shape using necessary tools. Inspect and remove existing asbestos and insulation and performs corrective/preventative maintenance, as required. Insulate with prefabricated insulating material, bindings, plastic, cement, etc. Maintain logs, records, charts, etc., as required. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested. Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: High School diploma or equiv. with specialized training from a vocational, community college, or accredited institution. Journeyman level per union rules. Five years related experience required. Possess OSHA- 10 card, Construction Industry and Asbestos Abatement Supervisor card. Respirator physical and Fit-Test card. Must be able to perform duties while wearing a Respirator. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and complete all assignments in a timely manner. Possess interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management. Maintain mental alertness, attention to detail and accuracy, maintain a safe work environment. Must qualify for and maintain a government top secret security clearance. Must possess a valid state issued driver's license. Note: US citizenship is required to obtain US Government security clearance. Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands: This classification may include managing hazardous materials or other environmental responsibilities. Frequent mental alertness, attention to detail and accuracy, maintain a safe work environment. Adhere to all Company Policies. May be required to spend extended periods of time away from home and work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays. Must be able to work in extreme adverse weather conditions and on ladders or scaffolding at precarious heights. Insulators must keep the work area well ventilated. Must determine when to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes suits, masks, and respirators which protects against hazardous fumes or materials.
