Job description
Duties Incumbent serves as a Unit Trainer/Evaluator (UT/E), instructor pilot, or pilot in command. Performs preflight weather analysis, Incorporates precision, non-precision, and GPS route navigation and instrument approaches in all mission planning and must be knowledgeable in all aspects of their operations. Trains and evaluates aviators on basic and advanced flight techniques. Conducts initial standardization flight evaluations for new air crew members and annual evaluations for assigned and attached pilots, including local aircraft transitions including refresher training. Pilot will adhere to existing Army flight regulations and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. Conducts initial instrument standardization rides for new air crew members and as a minimum conducts annual check rides for assigned and attached pilots. Trains and evaluates IP's and provides technical supervision of the standardization program. Serves as rotary wing Maintenance Test Pilot Examiner/Function Check Pilot Evaluator. Trains and evaluates ME/FCP's and provides technical supervision and standardization of the maintenance program. Maintains requirements and performs function of technical inspector for aircraft assigned. Responsible for the Army Aviation pre accident plan. Prepares for safety, environmental, hazardous communication, occupational health, and other inspections. Serves as rotary wing Maintenance Test Pilot (MTP) and/or Functional Check Pilot (FCP). Incumbent performs general or limited maintenance test flights following maintenance modifications or repairs to include routine scheduled maintenance. Ensures compliance with Army maintenance regulations, FAA regulation specifically Part 91. Manages Aircraft Survivability Equipment (ASE) Systems. Performs other duties as assigned. Failure to complete management prescribed courses for full-time support personnel within the first year of employment or assignment, may be cause for reassignment or termination. Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment. Incumbent must possess and continue to maintain a US Army Class II Flight Physical. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. Incumbent is subject to uncommon tours of duty, rotational shift assignments and compensation and/or overtime duty. Qualifications MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. Selected candidate must be MOS qualified within 12 months from date of appointment. Title 32 employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor (grade inversion). Maximum Military Grade - CW5 (W-5) Warrant Officer - Branch 15 GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Must be a rated pilot on flying status; possess at least one year on-the-job experience and a competent understanding of the basic principles and concepts of this position based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications and/or military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft; and the required competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities). GS-13 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess two years specialized experience in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following main-frame/military aircraft: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), providing instruction, evaluation and examination of rated pilots and instructor pilots in flying techniques; and experience must reflect qualification competencies in the following three factors: the aircraft operated; the nature and purpose of assignments, and the degree of hazard. The specialized experience must demonstrate your ability to operate a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation; review and analyze mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information; file flight plans and conduct crew briefings; perform aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments; perform or supervise work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations or surveillance and reconnaissance; competently conduct or supervise the training of crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks; and develop plans and policies, monitor operations, and advise commanders; and experience that demonstrates knowledge of flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures; unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with appropriate policies, regulations, and directives.
