POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for supervising equipment maintenance and repair to ensure efficient and safe fleet operation.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Pick up and prioritize daily vehicle work orders to assure timely repair.
- Maintain clean and safe work environment.
- Determine action to be taken on all trailer breakdowns.
- Assist with optimizing parts inventory control. Establish vendor relations to obtain the most reasonable parts purchase prices.
- Assist with the training of new mechanics as required.
- Maintain vendor network for road breakdowns.
- Coordinate with dispatch & warehouse supervisors to meet their equipment needs.
- Direct employees on needed equipment repairs.
- Keep personnel and payroll records up to date.
IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS:
- Tour garage area on a routine basis to assure work is being done correctly, respond to questions promptly, and provide assistance when necessary.
- Follow federal, state, and local regulations as required.
- Implement & enforce company rules & policies.
- Assist in controlling repair costs, while providing safe equipment.
- Keep driver delay time due to maintenance problems to a minimum.
- Achieve service goals on tractors, trailers, and refrigeration units.
- Implement and develop processes for the EAM maintenance program.
- Keep clear and accurate records of maintenance operations.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Any combination of education, training and experience providing the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge:
Payroll systems, supervisory skills, record keeping and filing systems, computer literacy, basic mathematical functions, good decision making and problem solving skills, DOT and environmental regulations
Abilities:
Collective bargaining agreement, must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, deal effectively with people, plan and organize, ability to work with minimal supervision.
Experience, Education and Training:
High School Diploma. Some college preferred. Supervisory experience in transportation.
Pysical Requirements:
Perform walking long distances, bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting, and reaching.
Working Environment:
Indoors and outdoors. Must be able to work in constant noise and temperature swings due to outdoor exposure. Exposure to diesel fumes and dust.
