Job description

Literacy Minnesota is seeking a temporary, part-time hourly role as Hotline Specialist. The position is 15 hours per work for the period of November 15-January 15. Work hours are flexible during the hours of 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.

Compensation Rate: $20-21.50/hour

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for ensuring that each person who contacts the Adult Literacy Hotline receives accurate and appropriate referrals to Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs in their area, provides Hotline related data upon request, and calls learners back to ensure they received the information they needed. Work environment consists of a typical office environment. Time spent on the computer is approximately 100%. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Specific responsibilities of the Temporary Hotline Specialist include, but are not limited to:

  • Hotline coordination, calls and data tracking - 95%
  • Answer incoming phone/email/text requests for referrals to ABE (GED prep/high school equivalency, job training, citizenship, and technology classes) & ESL (English-as-a-Second- Language) programs, return messages.
  • Track calls/texts/emails electronically.
  • Conduct follow-up calls to learners who reached out 2-3 months ago to ensure they have received the information they needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other Hotline staff on other projects.

Other - 5%

  • Provide support on Volunteer Outreach Coordinator's tasks when needed: sort outreach materials, help with mail and shipping, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED or Associate's degree
  • Six months professional experience in an office setting or related experience.
  • Ability to relate effectively with people of other cultures and varying educational backgrounds.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication skills, attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong computer skills with prior experience in database management software preferred. Familiarity with Salesforce a plus.
  • Interest in and commitment to ABE/ESL.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish.
