We believe that everyone has strengths and that judgements can wait. If you share our values and desire to listen to what people need and together, build better lives: we have an opportunity for you.

We have an opportunity for a full or part-time School Based Mental Health (SBMH) Therapist in multiple school districts in the Rochester Minnesota area. As a School Based Mental Health (SBMH) Therapist, you will play an integral role to ensure student success in their learning environment by collaborating with school professionals, providing direct therapeutic services to students and families, and providing training on mental health topics. You will do this by:

  • Providing mental health therapeutic services, co-located in the school setting to increase access for students who would otherwise not have access to services.

  • Consistently demonstrating clinical competence by providing therapy and diagnostic services to students and their families.

  • Developing and cultivating relationships with school sites and community members to expand and maintain SBMH collaborative efforts.

This position requires a master's degree in human service field and licensure in the State of Minnesota for independent practice in social work, psychology, or marriage and family therapy OR is qualified as a Clinical Trainee working towards independent licensure, as defined by State of Minnesota statutes.

The requisite skills and competencies for this position encompass the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse client and professional demographics, a profound understanding of family systems and adeptness in deploying efficacious interventions. The prospective candidate should demonstrate proficiency in functioning within a collaborative school team environment, coupled with strong communication skills for interaction with colleagues, co-workers, clients, and referral sources. Preference is given to individuals with experience or a keen interest in developing expertise in a Trauma-Informed, Solution-Focused, brief therapy model of practice.

Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to possess knowledge pertaining to the principles and techniques of mental health consultation, education, and prevention within the community. Proficiency in computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office, is essential, with a demonstrated ability to adapt to an electronic health record system.

Effective coordination, collaboration, and delivery of mental health services are pivotal aspects of the role, requiring the capacity to collaborate harmoniously with others. A comprehensive understanding of the biological, behavioral, and environmental dimensions of emotional disturbances, mental health disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse is imperative.

The successful candidate must possess reliable transportation to fulfill client needs and should exhibit a willingness to work additional hours, if necessary, to address crises and meet deadlines.

For your expertise, Family Service Rochester provides a collaborative and safe work environment where all identities are welcomed and valued. You can expect agency-led continuous improvement in understanding our own privilege and how that may impact our work with others. We prioritize self-care and ensure employees have adequate work-life balance. We offer a culture of learning, listening and growth where employees regularly meet with senior leadership to provide ideas and feedback.
