Overview:

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room at our M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital location in Edina, MN.

We're offering an up to $10,000 sign-on bonus along with a generous relocation bonus up to $5,000! We currently have flexible shifts / hours available!

As a Surgical Technologist, you'll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You'll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room.

Schedule: This position will be working 1.0 FTE (80 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hours on the day/evening/night shift. This position will also work rotating weekends.

About our Operating Room at Southdale:

Our surgeries include, but are not limited to, Open Heart, Neuro, Orthopedic, Generals, Da Vinci, Cardiovascular, Cysto, Colorectal, Urology, OB, Specialty Eye Cases, ENT, Neuro and Spine Surgery.
Occasional weeknight on-call and every third weekend call rotation with 30-minute response time.
Staffed for 315 beds hospital wide with the OR and same-day surgery departments having a combined total of 24 rooms.
We serve a diverse group of patients, mainly adults, averaging 20,000 cases per year. We do not provide trauma care at Southdale.

Responsibilities/Job Description:

As a Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for:

Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.
Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.
Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.
Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
Anticipating the surgeon's needs.
Following appropriate action in emergency situations.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

Complete one of the following by hire date:
Military Surgical Assistant; OR
LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR
Surgical Technologist training
Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire
1 to 3 years surgical tech experience

Other Required Skills:

Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served.
Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions.

Desired Skills:

Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
Ability to work well under a team environment.
Excellent communication skills.
The ability to prioritize and multi-task in a complex work environment.
