Job description


Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineer will utilize SolidWorks to design, detail, and layout multiple custom automation and robotics projects, spanning from project kick-off to the final design release. Responsibilities include developing concepts based on the companys SolidWorks library or customer specifications.



Primary Responsibilities



  • Manage all phases of mechanical engineering, including concept development, design, customer reviews and approvals, detailing, risk assessment, sequence of operations, BOM creation, and design release.

  • Successfully lead projects through design and engineering phases, addressing build issues as needed.

  • Act as a secondary point of contact for customers, supporting the Project Manager who serves as the primary contact.

  • Report project status internally to ensure timelines and budgets are met within the mechanical scope.

  • Track and report the percent of completion for labor and material on a weekly basis.

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to manage scope changes, estimate labor and material costs, and support negotiations while maintaining customer satisfaction.

  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, and Purchasing to ensure successful project execution.

  • Use project management tools, such as Gantt charts for scheduling, ECRs for change management, and other documentation to communicate and track project progress.



Qualifications & Requirements



  • 5+ years of experience in SolidWorks mechanical design for industrial automation, robotics, or custom machinery. Basic AutoCAD skills are required.

  • A two-year technical degree, a bachelors degree in a related field, or 5+ years of experience in automation or machinery. Preferred disciplines include mechanical or electrical engineering.

  • Strong ability to calculate mechanical requirements for structures, cylinders, motors, and loads.

  • Previous experience in tool and die design is a significant advantage.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Technical aptitude with the ability to learn and adapt quickly.

  • Proven negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

  • Demonstrated success in managing the mechanical scope of contracted projects.

  • Willingness to travel within North America, up to 10% of the time.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
