Job description

Welcome to Battle Creek Farm Bureau! We are a locally owned farmer cooperative dedicated to serving our agricultural community. We re hiring a Location Manager to join our team in Climax, MI (About 15 minutes southwest of Battle Creek). In this role you will oversee the daily operations, strategic planning, and financial management of the cooperative.

Since 1920, we have provided a wide range of agricultural products and services to both members and non-members. Located at 14325 East OP Ave in Climax, Michigan, we are owned by approximately 200 local farmers.

We offer competitive starting compensation of $75,000, paid time off, vacation, retirement options, life insurance, profit sharing-bonuses, and relocation support for the right person.

What you will be doing:

  • Oversee daily operations of the co-op, ensuring efficient delivery of agricultural services and products, including fertilizer and chemicals.
  • Develop and manage the co-op s budget, monitor financial performance, and ensure sound agricultural financial practices, focusing on margins for crops such as corn, soybeans, and wheat.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans to promote the growth and sustainability of the cooperative.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with co-op members, addressing their agricultural needs and ensuring high satisfaction.
  • Recruit, hire, and terminate staff as necessary. Train and supervise co-op personnel, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Supervise custom application services and maintain cleanliness and organization of facilities.
  • Engage with inspectors, state agencies, and insurance representatives to ensure compliance with agricultural regulations.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints promptly and effectively.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote co-op services and attract new members from the agricultural community.
  • Ensure compliance with agricultural regulations and prepare regular reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Represent the co-op at industry events, community meetings, and in collaboration with other agricultural organizations.

This job is for you if you have:

  • Degree in Business Management, Agriculture, or a related field OR a minimum of 3 years of management experience in an agricultural setting.
  • Strong understanding of agricultural practices and the challenges facing farmers.
  • Proven leadership and management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial acumen with experience in budget management.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic plans in an agricultural context.

Preferred Qualifications (Not required):

  • Certification as a Crop Advisor is highly advantageous but not required.
  • Ability to obtain a dealer license for pesticides (can be acquired post-hire).
  • Experience working with agricultural cooperatives.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal agricultural regulations.
  • Experience in agricultural marketing and member recruitment.
