Job description

The Lead Optical Manufacturing Engineer will lead a small team of 3-4 assemblers and engineers working on a new optical system. This is a hands-on position overseeing the development, implementation and optimization of manufacturing processes.

My client is a medical technology organization known for developing advanced surgical solutions. It specializes in minimally invasive surgical tools, with a particular focus on laser systems. In recent years, they have expanded their portfolio to include other surgical solutions, broadening their impact on various medical specialties.

Description

The key responsibilities of the Lead Optical Manufacturing Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, implement, and refine manufacturing processes to boost efficiency, improve product quality, and reduce costs.
  • Perform time and motion studies to identify bottlenecks and drive process enhancements.
  • Create and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to reduce waste and improve productivity.
  • Oversee engineering projects from concept to execution, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Liaise with external vendors and suppliers when needed.
  • Facilitate operations and customer training while transferring product repair and technical support knowledge to the Technical Service team.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.

Profile

The successful Lead Optical Manufacturing Engineer will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+years of relevant experience in Medical Technical Service and/or training, with advanced expertise in medical devices, including knowledge of QMS (Quality Management Systems) and document control.
  • Proficient in communicating effectively across all levels of the organization, as well as with suppliers and customers
  • Ability to mentor and lead junior engineers
