Draper's Electronic Systems business office delivers first-of-a-kind technical solutions addressing the Nation's most difficult security challenges. We are expanding our capabilities in this area and are looking for new hires that will support a large multi-functional team as part of a long-standing contract with history of immense success. We are seeking mechanical/manufacturing engineers who excel in fast-paced, dynamic work environments to deliver advanced technical solutions for USG customers. Engineers in this role will focus on production of new microelectronics products from prototypes through low-rate initial production. Candidates are required to have an in-scope TOP-SECRET clearance and will be expected to work in a classified environment with the current team in our Cambridge facility five days a week doing the following: • Perform mechanical design and development associated with the physical arrangement of electronic circuits including assembly design, analysis, build, test, and documentation support • Develop die-level packaging solutions including proposing solutions for placement and control of sensing components requiring precise alignment to be maintained through shock, vibration, and thermal disturbances • Execute the design, tolerance analysis, evaluation, or failure analysis of assigned projects using mechanical design principles. Preferred Qualifications include: • Familiarity with materials, fabrication, and assembly techniques associated with printed circuit assemblies including surface mount technology, high density substrates, rigid-flex designs, and integrated circuit assembly • Familiarity designing/directing the physical layout of electrical circuits including SMD, interconnect definition, and integrated circuit assembly techniques • Familiarity with machine shop tools and processes, prototyping, and vendor coordination • Familiarity with die level assembly processes and associated automated assembly equipment Job Description: Duties/Responsibilities
• Performs mechanical design concept exploration, trade study analysis, down-selection, prototyping, and testing with some guidance. • Drive solutions to complex problems with limited direction - contribute to requirements development, propose ways forward, and adapt appropriately to changes in requirements
• Plan and execute complex electro-mechanical design from the ideation stage through hardware fabrication and testing, including trade study, concept down select, and detailed design phases
• Identify program/system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies for them • Actively mentor less experienced engineers and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback
• Performs other duties as assigned. Skills/Abilities
