Responsibilities:

The Principal Analytics Engineer will be responsible for working to build and maintain the data architecture and software that supports our companys scalable data assets for modeling and analytics. Specific job duties will include:

1. Design, build, and manage robust and reusable data models and transformation pipelines that support a variety of downstream use cases and applications;

2. Gather technical requirements to design and develop software solutions (built in SQL/dbt code) to meet stakeholder needs;

3. Recommend data upgrades for existing dashboards and reporting systems;

4. Design the building blocks for complex software data systems, along with the architectural plan for how those blocks will fit together;

5. Create data models and diagrams for complex data systems and data applications;

6. Identify opportunities to improve the structure of our projects (dbt and Looker repositories) to improve clarity and collaboration and reduce duplicated effort among organizations and teams;

7. Provide mentorship, coaching, and training to junior analytics engineers in the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and nurturing talent for the future; and

8. Provide extensive documentation for data systems and products, in addition to training users on how to effectively use those products.
Five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience as a data analyst, analytics engineer, or closely related occupation working in the software industry. In addition, the employer requires:

1. Demonstrated ability utilizing SQL and Python to manage and manipulate datasets, create complex design patterns, write modular code macros, and perform query optimization gained through five (5) years of work experience;

2. Demonstrated ability managing complex projects with Git workflows and multiple contributors, including the use of rebasing, merging, and rollback strategies as appropriate gained through five (5) years of work experience;

3. Demonstrated ability working with downstream stakeholders to understand their requirements and convert those needs into reliable, cost-efficient, and scalable data solutions gained through five (5) years of work experience;

4. Demonstrated ability utilizing Kimball, Inmon, and OBT (One-Big-Table) data modeling and data warehouse design philosophies in appropriate situations gained through five (5) years of work experience;

5. Demonstrated ability exercising a high degree of influence over design patterns to implement or improve a large-scale data transformation project (including the architecture and project structure) in dbt (Data Build Tool) gained through five (5) years of experience;

6. Demonstrated ability managing sensitive data (i.e., PII, PCI, or HIPAA data) throughout the data lifecycle gained through three (3) years of experience; and

7. Demonstrated ability working with Snowflake or BigQuery and Looker or Tableau gained through three (3) years of work experience.

All years of experience may be gained concurrently.
Bachelors degree in computer science, data science, or a closely related field.
