Videos Help Duties The incumbent must be able to perform the duties required of the position without more than normal supervision. Typical duties include, but are not limited to: Motor coach drivers are responsible for operating oversize vehicles on extended trips where a variety of driving situations may be encountered, including congested locations, difficult metropolitan traffic, high speed highways, narrow country or mountain roads, and steep winding grades. These vehicles carry a larger number of passengers than are transported by conventional buses. Drivers have custody of the motor coach throughout the trip and are responsible for performing preventive maintenance, arranging for towing and unexpected repairs, and making parking or storage arrangements. Drivers manage their assignments with virtually no supervision and are responsible for the safe transport of cargo or the comfort of passengers on extended trips. Work is evaluated for efficiency and compliance with established policies, procedures and instructions pertinent to the driving mission. Performs operator maintenance on motorized vehicles Operate vehicles on and off public highways and paved roads Read and interpret regulations and technical publications to ensure safety of travelers and compliance to policy and regulations Recognize defective or malfunctioning parts of a motor vehicle Conducts patient recreation programs under the direction of a recreation therapist's Perform preventative maintenance checks and services on recreation vehicles. Purchase Card Holder - ensures that 95% of payments have been reconciled within 5 calendar days after the charge (payment) information is delivered locally to IFCAP, and 99% of the payments are matched within 17 days. Shall safeguard electronic signature, verify and access codes; not allow others to utilize the card; and utilize their card for official government business only. No more than 2 deficiencies, which are limited and minor, and have no significant impact on organizational or individual productivity are allowed during the rating period. Must attend at least 2 hours of documented training per year. Completes training and educational position requirements annually. This includes mandatory ( i.e. CPR, Fire, Safety, etc.) and other educational activities offered by the facility, as well as, those independently pursued for state and national organizations. Documents all requirements on TMS for service compliance and ensures all continuing education requirements are met. Maintains CDL requirements. Consistently communicates with customers (e.g. veterans, family members, the general public) in a courteous, tactful, and helpful manner. Communication, both oral and/or written, is generally provided promptly and is responsive to the customers' needs. Operate motor coaches on long-distance trips which usually involve interstate driving and night driving. For example, the driver will transport patients and staff to events. The drivers load the passengers' baggage and equipment into the coach's baggage compartment, ensuring that it is properly distributed and balanced to prevent shifting and breakage while in transit. They study the planned itinerary and select the best routes and identify alternative routes for emergencies. The drivers frequently maneuver the coach through congested, narrow streets with sharp turns. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Drivers at this grade may exert moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing on the tractor to hook-up service lines, lower landing gears, and climbing on the trailer to load or tie down cargo, and make limited emergency repairs such as replacing an electrical fuse or installing air in the tires on an open highway. May have to break ice pack and snow from couplings during all inclement weather. Must be able to climb into backs of trucks, lift and maneuver dock plates for safe loading and unloading. Must be able to push and pull carts onto trucks, carts weigh in excess of 800 pounds (on casters). Loading and unloading up to 32 carts at one facility. The driver operates the vehicle in all types of traffic, weather and in other types of driving conditions, and may be exposed to the dangers of serious accidents. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road construction and interchanging systems. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
