ATCC, a leading nonprofit biological resources and standards organization, is seeking a Repository Manager to lead a team of 7 and biospecimen storage for a biorepository including over 20 million biological samples. This position is fully on-site, 5 days per week, in Frederick, MD. This role is responsible for managing the team that ensures safe, 24/7 monitored storage of cryopreserved specimens.

As the Manager, Repository Operations, you'll ensure the meticulous maintenance of biological specimen inventories and oversee the storage, retrieval, and shipping of samples for our commercial and government clients. With hiring authority and employee management responsibilities, you'll assign duties, review performance, and develop your team to meet and exceed contractual obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Personnel Management: Responsible for all personnel functions, including hiring, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions within the repository. Build and supervise a team of 5-7 full-time employees, promoting a teamwork environment and developing professional staff interactions.
  • Operational Oversight: Manage repository operations and workflows across various projects, including costs, methods, and staffing. Ensure teams complete their work assignments timely, monitor and adjust staffing levels, and ensure proper safety protocols, including cold storage management, are followed to protect staff, equipment, and specimens.
  • Quality and Process Improvement: Conduct quality audits, address nonconformances, and implement corrective actions. Develop and implement changes in protocols and procedures to improve repository operations, mentor senior technicians, and ensure alignment with industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 7 or more years' experience, including 2 or more years' supervisory experience or equivalent experience.
  • Prior knowledge or experience with BSI (Biological Specimen Database) is highly preferred.
  • Experience in cold chain storage, shipping and/or receiving highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in managing teams and overseeing operational workflows.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to hazardous and biological materials.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Proficiency in using inventory management and tracking systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement process improvements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage staff.
  • Experience in conducting quality audits and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and manage on-call responsibilities effectively.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and standards in repository operations.
  • Staff hired for the NCI Central Repository Program must be eligible to able to obtain an NIH Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Card by submitting a Declaration of Federal Employment form within 60 days of employment.

Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
