About the Company and the Accountant Opportunity:

  • Our repeat client is a well known non profit in the Pikesville community and has been around for over 100 years. They are currently hiring an Accountant to be responsible for all accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts and payroll functions.
  • Position is primarily in office in Pikesville, MD. Free parking and remote work may be offered 1 day per week after training
  • Hours are 9am-4:30pm but can be flexible depending on candidates needs
  • Staff has been described as very friendly!
  • Reports directly to the Executive Director

Job Responsibilities of the Accountant:

  • Receives and codes bills and cash receipts for submission to the accounting provider for payment
  • Receives credit card bills, collects documentation from card holders, and codes the charges for submission to the outside accounting firm for payment
  • Manages petty cash activity by ensuring that proper supporting documentation is provided prior to reimbursement
  • Inputs member and billing information into the membership software and coordinate distribution of bills
  • Assist individuals to understand their bills as needed
  • Monitors and keeps tracks of bank balances and processes direct transfers between bank accounts. This includes the proper coding of outgoing and incoming ACH's, wires and other direct transfers
  • Processes all additions to and withdrawals from endowment funds in accordance with donor wishes, operational cash needs and fund restrictions
  • Provides monthly investment reports and allocation schedules required to maintain the fund activity accurately in the general ledger
  • Assures that all staff are set-up accurately in the payroll system (Paychex) and submits payroll for under 50 employees according to the payroll schedule
  • Coordinates the approval and entry of timesheets
  • Coordinates the payment of taxes, pension deductions and insurance benefit premiums
  • Financial reporting and disseminate monthly financial statements
  • Work extensively with Treasurer to complete accounting tasks
  • Attend staff meetings as needed

  • Ability to respect confidentiality
  • Takes initiative and requires little direction and supervision but also willing and able to ask questions when needed and able to stand up and speak their mind and be stern
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Adaptability/flexibility: willingness and capacity to accept a broad variety of administrative tasks within area of competence and able to deal with frequent interruptions

Qualifications for the Accountant:

  • 3-5 years of bookkeeping/accounting experience required or equivalent education
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite required. Intermediate Excel skills preferred
  • Experience using QuickBooks and Paychex a plus
