Job description

We are looking for a skilled Unix/Linux System Administrator to join our team supporting critical federal systems. This role is essential to maintaining secure, high-performance Unix/Linux environments, contributing to national security initiatives. You'll be part of a team ensuring 24/7 uptime for vital federal systems, making this an impactful role for experienced system administrators. Key Responsibilities: •System Management: •Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain Unix/Linux servers using tools like APT and RPM. •Manage backup, recovery, and failover processes to ensure system stability and data integrity. •Monitor system performance, diagnose issues, and apply solutions to maintain uptime. •Security & Compliance: •Apply security patches and implement firewall measures (e.g., iptables, firewalld). •Collaborate with the security team to mitigate vulnerabilities and ensure compliance. •User & Network Administration: •Manage user accounts and group policies. •Configure network interfaces, routing, and VLANs for seamless operations. •Automation & Scripting: •Develop and maintain scripts to automate system monitoring, routine tasks, and changes. •Technical Support: •Provide technical support to users, assisting the helpdesk with inquiries and incident resolution. •Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system functionality and availability. Minimum Requirements: •Security Clearance: Active Secret clearance. •Citizenship: U.S. citizenship with no dual citizenship, as per agency requirements. •Availability: Willing to work in a 24/7/365 environment, including recall readiness and on-call rotation. •Location: Must reside within a commutable distance to Annapolis Junction, MD, with the ability to work on-site during the transition period. •Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. •Experience: 7+ years as a system administrator on Unix/Linux systems or in a related role.
