Requirements:

Position Summary:

The Special Education Teacher works with children with special needs, their families, and both site and Child Development Services (CDS) teams to ensure inclusion in assigned classrooms, and implements individualized curriculum to meet the needs of children with special needs. This individual will be responsible for providing support for children with special needs in a classroom environment as well as implementing Specifically Designed Instruction (SDI) on an as needed basis. They will also be responsible for the adequate and accurate documentation of the assigned child's/children's program as required.


Qualifications:

Experience and Skill Requirements:

The following experience and skills are considered essential:

  • 2-3 years' experience in group care settings for young children (0-5) preferred.
  • Must be able to meet requirements of agency & State Child Care Licensing regulations for background checks and physical exams.
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication (written & verbal) and documentation skills, critical thinking skills, basic computer skills, and group management skills.
  • Ability to travel within 2 counties.

Education Requirements: The following education requirements are considered essential:

  • Must hold a Bachelor's Degree and maintain a full 282 (0 - age 5) endorsement from the Maine Department of Education.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of child development, disabilities, family systems and special education methods.
  • Experience in the provision of services to children with disabilities is preferred.
  • Must have access to an adequately insured vehicle, if conducting agency business and the ability to travel to a variety of locations to deliver services.
