JOB SUMMARY: Provides direct and indirect professional care to selected patients, under general daily supervision, following established nursing procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Act as a patient advocate to meet patient needs. Address physical, emotional, spiritual, and social dimensions of patients. Initiate emergency measures according to approved protocols before physician arrives. Initiate emergency measures when needed to transport resident to the hospital ER. Communicate effectively with Abuse/Neglect/ Exploitation policy and procedures. Exhibit leadership and direction in-patient care in accordance with organizational, departmental and unit goals. Follow Infection Control guidelines. Provide for patient safety. Organize daily assignments. Transcribe and initiates physician's orders. Prepare patients for treatment and/or procedures. Perform wound dressing changes. Perform suctioning as needed. Insert Foley catheters as needed. Perform vital signs and assessments as needed. Document assessments and findings as needed. Assist CNA5s with their duties if needed. Maintain clean organized patient cubicles. Conform to dress code. Awareness of patient rights. Adhere to the policy and procedure of the unit. Document incident as per policy. Prepare and maintain adequate supplies. Assist in planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care. Administer medication, IV therapy as training permits and correlates with disease process, patient condition and other treatment modalities. Proficient in ancillary duties, Provide effective infection control practices. Provide patient and family education and instruction. Work as a member of the HIS team to help reinforce a culture of safety in the Nursing Department and organization wide. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and holds a current L.P.N. license with the Maine State Board of Nursing. Maintain professional growth. Understand emergency procedures and protocols. Maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served i.e., Neonate child/adolescent and geriatric. WORKER TRAITS: Verbal ability is necessary to understand patients' charts, doctors' orders, nursing care plan, and medication orders and to communicate with patients and staff. Motor coordination and manual dexterity are necessary to coordinate hands, eyes, and fingers in administering medications and treatments, using clinical instruments, and handling patients. Clerical perception is required to prepare records and charts. Conform to policy and procedure in regard to attendance, working hours and punctuality. Application to duties. Demonstrate initiative and judgement. Ensure proper equipment functioning. Maintain accurate records. Involve in CQI activities. Facilitate open positive communication. Serve on nursing committees.
