Job description

This is the first of two levels in the Transportation series. Incumbents transport clients and maintain an assigned vehicle. Responsibilities may include inspecting an assigned vehicle to identify maintenance needs; receiving transportation requests by radio and/or phone; assisting clients in and out of a vehicle; transporting clients to a variety of locations; and documenting work activities.(The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Other duties may be assigned.) Drives a bus, van, or other motorized vehicle for the purpose of transporting clients to applicable locations. Performs routine cleaning and bus maintenance activities which includes conducting re-fueling activities, maintaining assigned fuel use logs, and reporting perceived or potential bus defects. Communicates via two-way radio to receive pick up and drop off instructions; maintains records of arrival, departure, and travel times. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and one year commercial driving experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. LICENSING REQUIREMENT Valid Commercial or Chauffeur's Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement as per State law or requirement. Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, and oils. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. UNIFORM An employee in this position will be supplied with a uniform, provided by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. The employee is responsible for abiding by the Police Jury's Uniform Agreement.
