Position: Information Technology Technician

Salary Range: CL 25 ($47,966 - $77,966)

CL 26 ($52,831 - $85,844)

Depending upon qualifications and experience, education, and salary history.

Position Overview:

The United States Bankruptcy Court and the United States Probation Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky are accepting applications for an Information Technology Technician. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Information Technology Technician provides day-to-day support and training for end users, installs and configures computer hardware and software programs, and performs routine troubleshooting. Periodic travel is required for training and to perform duties at the divisional offices in the Eastern District of Kentucky. Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work may be necessary.

About the Court:

Headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky, the United States Bankruptcy Court and the United States Probation Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky serve sixty-seven counties through six divisions. The position will assist in supporting 74 employees, 2 Judges and 4 chambers staff.

Qualifications:

To qualify for the position, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience or completion of a bachelor's degree.

Preferred Skills:

Applicants should possess strong communication and problem-solving skills. Experience using Information Technology systems to perform tasks, manage information and provide customer service is required. Progressively responsible experience with information technology systems which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and administer printing, scanning and other multi-function networked devices. Experience supporting mobile technology (smart phones, tablets, laptops). Basic understanding of TCP/IP, Active Directory (user creation/deletion, password resets), and IT security concepts.

A successful candidate must be mature, responsible, poised, organized, and meticulous. They must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to learn new technologies. The incumbent must be able to multitask, be highly self-motivated, proactive and follow detailed instructions. The ability to maintain confidentiality is required. Must also possess integrity, tact, good judgment, initiative, and the ability to work with a wide variety of people with diverse backgrounds

Representative Duties:

• Provide day-to-day end user support and assist with training staff in MS Office 365 Suite, MS Active Directory, Adobe Acrobat, MS Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and national/locally-developed applications.
• Respond to helpdesk calls, emails, and service requests submitted through the internal helpdesk ticketing system.
• Distribute and install new hardware, including, but not limited to, PC hardware, laptops, printers, IP phones, and mobile devices. Track equipment using internal inventory application.
• Provide support for mobile technology and remote access. Provide general hardware maintenance, upgrades, and repairs.
• Install and configure new software applications. Troubleshoot routine hardware and software problems. Assist IT staff with the maintenance of national and locally developed applications.
• Provide assistance with IT-related upgrades for cabling, internet protocol telephony, video conferencing, and courtroom technology.
• Ensure complete installs of system updates and security patches.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:

The actual pay level will be established based on the successful applicant's qualifications and experience in accordance with the personnel policies of the federal judiciary. The position does not carry the tenure rights of positions in the competitive Civil Service. Other federal government benefits (e.g., leave, holidays, life and health insurance, long-term care insurance, flexible spending accounts and retirement benefits) are applicable. Conditions of Employment:

Employees must be United States citizens or eligible to work in the United States. Employees are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees which is available to applicants to review upon request. A full government background investigation, including FBI fingerprint and criminal records check, will be conducted. The selectee will be hired provisionally, pending successful completion of the investigation. This position is also subject to updated background investigations every five years. All court employees are at will, and therefore the selected candidate may be removed from this position at any time and for any or no reason.
