POSITION OVERVIEW: The Prevention Program Facilitator is responsible for the direct provision of services to program participants. This includes collaborating with schools, community sites and other Sedgwick County agencies. Prevention programs target at-risk populations, using evidence-based models with a goal to reduce substance use, improve self-image and confidence, and equip students with skills for the future. The Facilitator will be cross-trained and may be assigned to work in any of the different Prevention programs as needed. The Facilitator is also responsible for ensuring pre- and post-testing, collection of other data, helping to secure financial support for program activities, as well as development and submission of reports to supervisor. The position requires attendance at meetings at each school/community site, providing community service opportunities for youth, and attending community meetings as requested.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Attends trainings and becomes certified, if necessary, to implement curriculum.

2. Ensures 60% of the hours worked each week are for or in preparation of direct services.

3. Designs extracurricular and/or community service activities for students to participate in throughout the year.

4. Facilitates groups and works with other providers and the parent(s)/guardian as appropriate.

5. Administers pre- and post-testing and collects surveys from the school and families in timely manner.

6. Develops documentation and submits progress activities and statistics necessary to show adherence to grant requirements.

7. Facilitates program activities and communicates program reports to supervisor regularly.

8. Solicits referral of children to the program from schools, DCF, JIAC, COMCARE, services agencies and families.

9. Provides group facilitation in other Prevention programs when needed.

10. Files and organizes documents for data entry.

OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintains acceptable overall attendance record, to include department staff meetings, agency meetings, and trainings as required. Ensures appropriate notification to supervisor for absences and ensures that work is covered. Flexible in work schedule when needed.

2. Exhibits appropriate level of technical knowledge for the position.

3. Produces quantity of work necessary to meet job requirements.

4. Works well with a team, keeps others informed of information needed. Treats others

with respect, maintaining a spirit of cooperation.

5. Maintains effective and professional verbal and written interactions with peers, customers, supervisors and other staff. Uses diplomacy and tact in dealing with difficult situations or people. Demonstrates effective listening skills. Is receptive to constructive feedback.

6. Demonstrates the ability and willingness to handle new assignments, changes in procedures and business requirements. Identifies what needs to be done and takes appropriate action.

7. Completes assigned work, meets deadlines without reminders/follow-up from supervisor or others.

8. Performs work conscientiously with a high degree of accuracy.

9. Meets goals and objectives as mutually agreed upon during last performance review (if applicable).

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Prevention Program Facilitator is expected to have 2 years of post-high school education, preferably in Social Services, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and presentation skills. Must demonstrate ability to maintain rapport with staff, project stakeholders/participants, and parents. Basic computer skills to input documentation is needed. Must have experience working with diverse populations and at-risk children. Required skills include: cultural competency, knowledge of child/family dynamics, program planning including strong organizational skills. Must be flexible to work evenings and weekends.
